May the coldest on record, Niwa figures show

Full story: www.times-age.co.nz

Niwa senior climate scientist Georgina Griffiths said May "broke records from one end of the country to the other - it was the coldest May on record", and there was nothing much to toast in the South Wairarapa wine village, which registered 69 percent of normal sunshine hours for May - the lowest figure for the town since records began. It was wet too with double the normal rainfall for May (about 200 percent of normal) in Wairarapa, Canterbury and Otago while much of Northland, Auckland, Wellington and Southland got at least 150 percent of normal May rainfall. June didn't fare much better as Ngawi racked up a record low topping the mercury at just 6.6C on June 16 - the lowest daily maximum temperature on the books. Ms Griffiths said these temperatures were 1.5C lower than what is typical for June - a pattern that was repeated across the lower North Island.

San Jose had record heat recently, but of course, all the AGW denialists ignore that and focus on cases like Niwa, which has the opposite.

But when will they ever face the facts? Neither proves anything about AVERAGE GLOBAL temperature, which still shows a steady upwards climb and that at historic rates (http://www.cru.uea.ac.uk/cru/data/temperature... ).

and don't forget, all the experts told us that GW would not only cause record highs, but record lows as well.

Just for the record, get ready Matt.....here come the denialist monkeys. In fact, I would bet money that the thread after this one will be a denialist monkey saying "see, told you so...it's really getting colder, nani nani boo boo".

Did I mention how much I hate those irrational sons of bitches?

Global warming destabilizes the climate balance. It tends to show up as changes regionally, hotter, colder, drier, wetter, etc.

Climate change is about changes in climate. But almost certainly this particular regional cooling is about La-Nina, not AGW.

Now who's a clueless liar?
Where and how do you get the, "all" from, your butt, where most of your theory comes from?

What "historic" rates are you rambling about?
The 1 ºF rise in 100 years, some of it natural, that no longer exists except in the minds of alarmists who promise GW will return in about 30 years, "with a vengeance?"

Alarmist twits, who never stop to consider that natural progress will reduce emissions.
Alarmist twits, who never stop to consider how humanity arrived at this (so called) advanced stage and now want to wreck it.

Of course "all the experts told us that GW would not only cause record highs, but record lows as well." The term climate change came with the .....changing climate.

Climate change will result in warming and cooling climates. Unfortunately, CO2 increases do not result in warming and cooling climates. CO2 hypothesis states that increases in CO2 will warm the climate.

The sun's very low activity is being 'felt' in the cooler temps. Solar max was in 2000, solar min December 2008. Cycle 24 predicted now to be the lowest cycle since cycle 15 which began in 1913.

Current TSI

TSI for the last three months
http://lasp.colorado.edu/sorce/total_solar_ir...

TSI for the last three solar cycles, ACRIM is most often cited.

And for some perspective, Wang 2005, Lean 2000 TSI reconstructions from 1600ce forward, pages 3 and 4.

Let's see, CO2 is the climate driver when it warms and also when it cools?
Seems like the WarmCoolists (new name) have all their bases covered?

If it wasn't so funny, it would only be amusing.

WE MUST CUT CO2 NOW TO STOP WARMCOOLING.

True or NOT, the piece was about NZ. Let's see what NOAA says about USA:

NOAA: U.S. Temperature Warmer than Average for May

June 10, 2009

The May 2009 temperature for the contiguous United States was above the long-term average, based on records going back to 1895, according to an analysis by NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center in Asheville, N.C.

The average May temperature of 62.5 degrees F was 1.4 degrees F above the 20th Century average. Precipitation across the contiguous United States in May averaged 3.22 inches, which is 0.35 inch above the 1901-2000 average.

U.S. Temperature Highlights

California, New Mexico, and Utah respectively had their fourth, sixth, and ninth warmest May while Nevada and Arizona registered their fifth warmest May on record. Only North Dakota, Oklahoma, and Arkansas had an average monthly temperature that was below normal.

For the January – May period, only North Dakota has experienced cooler-than-normal average temperatures. By contrast, much of the South, Southwest, and West regions have been above-normal for the period.

Other Highlights

The Red River at Fargo, N.D., set records for consecutive days above flood (62 days), moderate flood (37 days), and major flood (31 days) stage. Grand Forks, N.D., also set a record with 32 straight days above moderate flood stage. Along the Illinois River, Peoria broke the record for days above flood stage with 86 days at the end of May.

Last month, 9,265 new wildfires ignited and burned approximately 312,599 acres. The number of fires ranked May 2009 second during the past decade for number of fires, and third for acreage burned. For the year to date, 41,328 fires have burned approximately 1,377,310 acres throughout America, making 2009 the worst year -- so far -- in the past decade for number of fires, and third highest year to date for acreage burned.

I'm here legally as a European citizen and Spanish resident for the last 19.5 years, if that's what you're asking?

Europe is now a bit like the US, we can legally move from State to State.

Was that a collective decision like "me and my woman" decided?

Obviously.. that line of inquiry leads to other speculation..

Shall we just say 'you' made the right decision ;)

You are seriously confused. It is more than 1ºF, and it has been accelerating rapidly since 1975.
Alarmist twits, who never stop to consider that natural progress will reduce emissions.
The 'twits' are those who deny the evidence as you do. And AGW activists DID consider the "natural progress". We figured out what you deny, that the "natural progress" is far, far too slow to deal with the huge amounts of CO2 we dump.

Rubbish!
"We found no evidence to support the hypothesis that incomplete observational data has caused us to overestimate the true warming trend," said Duffy, lead author of the paper. "On the contrary, our results suggest that the actual warming during the 20th century may have been slightly larger than the warming estimated from the incomplete observational data of -about 0.7 degrees Celsius instead of 0.6 degrees Celsius."

Even alarmists agree.
How much have average global temperatures risen over the 20th century?

The global average temperature has risen a little more than a degree Fahrenheit over the past century, and that change in global temperature has already been accompanied by significant changes in the climate.
