So much for freedom of speech. The suspects citizenship status is very relevant...it is a huge issue we all have to deal with these days.
First, Topix reserves the right to remove comments that are deemed inappropriate. You agreed to this when you posted on this site.

Secondly, no evidence has been brought to light regarding the citizenship status of any of the subjects in this specific story. It isn't relevant until such things are mentioned.

You may, of course, discuss the general issue of illegal immigration in another, on-topic thread.

Thirdly, it is completely and utterly inappropriate to -- A) Assume someone's racial/ethnic heritage based solely because their name "sounds" a certain way and then B) assume their citizenship status based on being a supposed member of a certain racial/ethnic group.

Unless factual material specific to this story is brought to the table, such comments in this thread will be deleted as off-topic. Your continued cooperation is always appreciated.

I just cannot believe that this young man could do something so vile. I pray that God will wrap that mother in his arms & bring her a little comfort. No one should ever have to deal with losing their children so suddenly.

I wonder, did the young man who committed this heinous crime ever show any signs that he was capable of this? Did his family or friends read his levels of anger & jealosy? Had he ever made threats to his ex-girlfriend or her new boyfriend?

Although I know this outcome is a complete shock to everyone, I just hope that the people around him did not ignore any erratic behavior by this individual that led to these murders.

Sawblade -

Sorry. I had to remove your post because it quoted a now-deleted post. Deleting a post really doesn't work if it shows up elsewhere in the thread.

The suspect may be hispanic, but that has little to do with the guilt or innocence of said person. Give the racism a rest please, and find a more appropriate forum.
Who's the racist?? I didn't mention his nationality, you did...that is irrelevant. His citizenship status, however is not. If he in fact is here illegally, our government has failed at it's most basic function....protecting it's CITIZENS.

Forgive us all for not knowing what to say. How could we. The "dad" who wrote shared beautifully the need for love, and, honestly, that is all that is being expressed. Some of us can use calming words, some of us rage inside at the terrible loss and our expression is of that rage, which does cover over the sadness that is too painful to feel. But it all comes from love and compassion. We just are not prepared, this human family that we are, for the loss of children. We will never understand, even if our anger causes us to demand revenge, the taking of life. We mourn your loss, as it is ours as well, for the beautiful lights that went out were a part of us all, this human family that we are.

I attended the beautiful Candlelight Vigil for Steven Furtado last night and my heart goes out to his family during this tragic time. Sometimes all you can think of is revenge but for me I would like to see justice for the young man who caused this. I dont want him to get the death penalty I want him to think everyday about what he did. I want him to deal with his consequences. He took a wonderful young man from two amazing parents. As someone said at the vigil the Furtados we more than just Stevens parents they were his best friends too. And to the Carrigan family I hope that some how the young man quilty can be charged with wrongful death or something for your son, cause if he had not done this you son would also still be here.

You have to tell her...we all have to tell our children that monsters are real, they just look like everyone else. The victims in this case are all children!

you agree to NOT use the Service to:

upload, post, email, transmit or otherwise make available any Content that is unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, torturous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable;

please remember that parents of children who committ such horrendous crimes also lose a child in that process, and I am not saying the accused did. This person has the same constitutional rights as you or I and is innocent until proven guilty by a jury of his peers. There are NO words to right this situation and hate only begets more hate. Give both families involved peace and pray for them equally for they both experienced tragedy of tremendous proportions.

Someone asked how to help the mother. Money can be sent to Holiday Market where Jenny worked they are matching dollar for dollar. Seneca Hospital I know has an account set up too. I know she will need money to help pay for the cost to help bury her two children. God be with her.

His race has nothing to do with it. Reyes is not an illegal alien, he was born in the United States, he grew up in Chester, he attended Chester High School and was scheduled to graduate with his calss this June. Animosity toward this boy is not what is needed for our grieving community right know. Like it or not Reyes was somebodies son also and we, the community of Chester, grieve for him and his family also. The hardest thing for our community and what we are counsiling our children about is how something like this can happen anywhere anytime to anyone. Reyes grew up here, and worked in our local supermarket, he was not some Mexican Gang Banger, or some fluke from the foster program. Our community is grieving for all involved and trying to leave the vindictiveness behind, you should too. This was a horrific ordeal and a cloud has hung over our community for the past week. Lets try a stay positive.

I'm not alone when I say I will not grieve one bit for that psycho. He did not care about the victims or their families NOR did he care about what this would do to his own family. I think we should concentrate our support on the victims in this case.

What he did, without thinking of anyone but himself, also caused the death of one of the victim's brothers. He destroyed countless lives and NO ONE could ever make me feel sorry for him. Everyone has been hurt by a someone they love at least once in their lives but very few have what it takes to do what this sorry excuse for a human being did.

I am both horrified and heartbroken for the mother who has lost both her children as well as the other families who have lost loved ones. Please don't ask others to feel empathy for the degenerate piece of garbage that committed these crimes.

BTW, I don't think his ethnicity has anything to do with this case.
