First Guantanamo war crimes trial under way

The first U.S. war crimes trial since World War Two began on Monday at the U.S. navy base in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, nearly seven years after the September 11 attacks prompted President George W. Bush to declare war on terrorism.

The delay in bringing any of the alleged captured terrorists and criminals to any sort of legal closure is simply another example of how the American Left and Democrat leadership has undermined US efforts to fight terrorism since 9/11. The legal maneuvering of the Left is responsible for the length of time these enemy combatants have drifted in legal limbo.

The American Left has empowered terrorism around the globe and swelled their ranks by their horrible abuse of these prisoners as pawns in the larger Leftist desire to deconstruct America.

Yeah, it everyone else's fault for Bush taking six years before he could bring someone to trial.

Damn left also stopped Bush from capturing Osama Bin Laden also right?

Just check your recent history... The American Left has led repeated efforts to undermine any effort to bring these people to trial. They promised to disrupt America since 2000 and have done so.

In the large scheme of things these defendants are really the evidence of the actual crime committed by the perpetrator who are yet to be discovered. The real criminals are well insulated and protected by the very machine that will prosecute these defendants. Justice in this incident is played on the emotions of those lost which is far from being blind justice but more like justice with a price- a price that can be bought.

A lot of socialist governments stated a long time ago, the state must control and forbid release of all activities that may incite public debate or the leadership itself may be subject to debate and crisis prevail.

Hate those commies but we shoulda never said a thing. "Capture who?, nah. Ain't never seen the guy." Oddly, a lot of hardline American conservatives voice this opinion. Conservatives for Lenin? Good grief.

Due process under the law.

It's what a great nation does. Why does the Bush Administration and their adoring munchkin supporters have a problem with it?

The majority of these terrorists kept at Gitmo have been hardened little beasts all their lives. In fact, they never had it so good there..restaurant meals, more health & dental care than our Troops, fun & games, basketball & movies with qurans & arrows pointing to Mecca. Some who were taken back to Afghanistan threw fits & cried because they wanted to stay at "Club Gitmo". Some of them who were sent back ended up killing some of our Troops in battle. Too bad some clueless, bleeding heart liberals can't take the remaining Jihadis home with them.. Now, we get to pay threw the nose for their trials and their pathetic upkeep for life, or until they escape, etc..

TF: During the past eight years we've seen the United States conduct a rather hostile foreign policy towards much of the world. America has attacked two Middle Eastern nations, resulting in many deaths, torture and the imprisonment of innocents. As President what can you do to correct these wrongs?

Senator Obama: As I have said from the beginning it was a mistake to go into Iraq for the reasons you cited. America has lost respect and does not have the creditability it had prior to the current administration. I intend to pull American forces out from Iraq as soon as we can. That's the first thing. What America has failed to do is seek justice. The current policy is more like a quest for vengeance, it is counter-productive. It has not made us safer.

We have to work with other nations instead of alienating them, we have common interests and we have to respect them and we have to learn how to work with other nations. We cannot be sloppy and cut corners. The Bush administration has been undermining the virtues of America that will I plan to lead America by.

TF: So you will stop the imprisonments?

Senator Obama: The Supreme Court has ruled that what the current administration is doing is illegal. It is a shameful chapter in American history when people are picked up in battle and imprisoned without access to legal representation. This has not happened before in American history. I intend to restore respect for the law and for human rights. That should always be the end-goal in all U.S. policy especially with foreign policy. We have to show our best, not our worst characteristics.

Why weren't they disposed of immediatly?
Does anyone think they will repent and not return to jihad?
At least one who was released returned to Iraq and was killed in an attack on the kind hearted Americans who released him. Saps.
This a waste of time, money and good cell space at Gitmo.
Off with their heads, bury them with their head less bodies facing the north pole lying face (missing)down in a casket made of pork bones.
A good enemy is a dead enemy. You never have to fight them again.

It is often said that our troops are "protecting our freedoms". That of course is a statement of total ignorance. The last time US troops fought to protect our freedoms was the war of 1812 when the British invaded. Since that time every war was created to make money. In other words, the troops are protecting profits of the wealthy elite. This is not a liberal or conservative thing, it is not a democrat or republican thing. It is a greed thing where a few wealthy use war to steal and profit and screw over the working people of the country while making them say, "thank you sir, may I have another".

You cringing neoconned sycophant, Minimoto Mushimushi.
The reason they haven't been brought to "Just Us" is because there is next to no proof connecting them to any terrorist attempts.
Just like nearly all the "tewwowists" have been released from Gitmo because there was no proof, or because they'd been sold to the invaders for money, or were in the wrong place at the wrong time.

You sure arrested and tortured a lot of taxi-drivers, though.
You didn't catch Bin Gone, or any of the top men in the al Patsi movement, but that's OK, because you got Saddam ! Yay !
All the victims of the Saudi attack on Silverstein's asbestos-ridden towers can breath a choking sigh of relief.
Just Us is done.

The "Left", which you so sneeringly disdain, are the ones trying to save America from the slithering fascist filth like you.
If George Washington was alive today, he'd kick your chickenhawk neocon ass so hard your eyes would pop out of your thick neoconned skull.
