Mitt Romney: Nearly half of Americans don't pay income tax, 'believe they are victims'

Full story: The Washington Post

Already scrambling to steady a struggling campaign, Republican Mitt Romney confronted a new headache Monday after a video surfaced showing him telling wealthy donors that almost half of all Americans "believe they are victims" entitled to extensive government support.

WELL, are we counting the ILLEGALS in this poll? HOW the heck can Americans PAY anything WHEN their jobs have been sent to another state AND they can't afford to re-locate there OR their employers DECIDED to move their entire businesses OVERSEAS? So, they haven't a choice EXCEPT to accept the unemployment offered, the Food Stamp Assistance and Health programs offered..CUZ, their AIN'T no jobs to be had, THAT pay a decent wage for a family's survival on a daily basis. IT'S so FREAKIN' easy to knock those THAT are down on their luck..WHEN you are flourishing in every aspect of your life..the WHAT IF'S are a challenging issue in everyone's life..the question THAT may or may not be answered correctly!

Respectfully you are wrong. GE pays taxes when profits are given to shareholders. The shareholders then pay taxes on short term and long term capital gains.
P.S. I can't stand GE!

Corporations pay taxes via shareholders. You are all being lied to by the liberal media. Shareholders ARE the corporation and SHAREHOLDERS pay taxes.

I live in a bubble. I'm America's version of Little Lord Fauntleroy. I'm a prince and I want you to elect me as your king. Ann will make a wonderful queen. Plus,I'll be able I can charge all of those $900.00 blouses on the taxpayers dime as king. I know what's best for the little people. The little people need to pay more in taxes. The rich need to pay much less and corporations should pay nothing.

I want corporate America to be just as spoiled and pampered as I have been for my entire life. After all, corporations are people too!

If you think British Petroleum has paid too much in taxes, please VOTE ROMNEY AND RYAN 2012

The corporate tax is a flat rate 35% also. Liberals are clueless. They just repeat what they heard.

Times would be somewhat easier if taxpayers weren't forced to hold the bag for all those bailouts too. The federal reserve needs to be abolished and Fort Knox audited. Restructure the tax code as well.
On a separate note,
Chicago has some of the highest paid teachers in the country yet they are on strike.
Figure that one out.

Some of these people are independent voters, elderly on social security, and disabled. Some may be veterans. All are potential voters. This is a man who is running for president of the entire United States, not just the few rich donors sitting in a ballroom. Get the vote first, then talk about changes. That's politics 101. This is where Mitt's problems lies, he speaks first then he has to flip flop later.

LOL, not a liberal, just not wealthy enough or delusional enough to be classified as a conservative.

Yes that is base rates of taxes paid, however when the totals are calculated together with how much GE nets off the government between deductions, subsidies, tariffs, ect they MORE than make back what they pay in.

Then lets get into the other equation, Just like Romney himself, paying 13% on 21 million? Or how about his croneys supporting him who pay only fractions of what they should be paying through careful manipulation of loopholes and exemption exploits.

Long and short of this, as can be seen in the youtube video, Romney discredits the validity of almost half of the country, despite not even fully comprehending how that 47% he quotes is calculated and attributes it all to the poor, to which he basically has dismissed as irrelevant.

Should anyone, who feels its a safe thing to dismiss half the population of a country, be allowed to serve it?

Corporate profits are taxed twice, once at the business level and once at the shareholder level... the same money taxed twice. No other element of the American system pays taxes twice on the same money. Why can't you jerks get that into your heads?

The top 3% of income earners in the nation pay 50% of the taxes, that end up supporting many things, including the approximately 50% of people not paying taxes, some living in an underground economy, some cheating even their own families and neighbors. When will the socialists develop some character?

Because they SHOULD be taxed twice as when it transitions from the buisness level into share holder level, it becomes individual profit, or what is otherwise known as Income. The corporation pays for its privilege to operate. The shareholder pays for reaping the benefit of the corporations success through dividends and other liquidity.

Really, its harder to understand why that doesnt make sense than why it is.

Yes, and if they want foreign investment and jobs to come here then that rate needs to come down by half. Personally I think we are screwed past the point of no return. I hope I'm wrong.
People don't understand the federal reserves disasterous role in all this and when they do it will be too late.
Audit and end the fed.
Audit Fort Knox.
Abolish and restructure the tax code.
Eliminate govt by half.
Ban all lobbyists.
Get out of the Middle East and let Israel defend itself.

And Romney expects to appeal to average, hardworking Americans by 'insulting' them by telling them they don't 'pay taxes'...

As if people who earn $33,000 a year, barely making it, are slackers...

Keep insulting the populace Romney...

The point is not necessarily a complaint, but that Leftists and their sheep think that those actually creating wealth should pay even more taxes to accommodate the increasing number of people not paying any. The real issue to correct America's problems has always been uplifting the character of those inclined to be lazy, or criminal.
