Just after the economy tanked I was either going to get a promotion or a pink slip. The decision was suppose to be made in 2 weeks, with the pink slips going out in 3 weeks.

That Thursday night my boss came to my house for dinner. After we ate he told me that the "higher ups" were really pushing for MaryAnn to get the promotion, but that they wanted his opinion on who they should consider against her. Hi I was in an acting role for my organistion in Birmingham, UK, when my two line managers, two Directors (human resources/finance) and the CHIEF Executive invited me to conference in London. After I finally got a job after 9 months of unemployment, I promised myself I would do anything to stay employed. When rumors of layoffs went around last year, I made an appointment with the boss, and told him in no uncertain terms I would do anything to stay employed. A couple days later he asked me if I wanted to have a drink with me. My sister watched my son at her apartment that night, and I brought the boss home.
