Contrary to the gleeful librarians, I do not believe that public libraries should be giving assurances of privacy to members of the public using the public computers installed in the public libraries. The operative word here is "public" libraries and "public" computers. In the case of public libraries, signs should be prominently posted notifying the public of this fact so that no reasonable person can have any expectation of privacy when he or she uses the public computer. If a person wants privacy in his or her use of a computer, used their own computer or a computer provided by a private entity.
