Pennsylvania is regaining reputation for crookedness

What we have been told thus far about ''Bonusgate'' is only the tip of the iceberg and both Democrats and Republicans are involved.

While we have our ethical problems, powerful interest groups (teachers) and our share of issues we are not even in the same league as Louisiana, the undisputed king of corrupt states. Then you have little Rhode Island, where over the years State officials have gone to prison after serving a few years in office.
We're going downhill, but we are far from the worst.

But very close, Mr. Birch. It's time for the people of PA. to step up to the plate and make these career crooks
responsible for their self indulgent actions.

Locally, I think(my opinion) we got rid of the worst when t j r decided not to run after the illegal pay fiasco AND he took his share before going. Now back to the judges......

Pennsylvania is the most corrupt state in the country. Agriculture is the leader in which there lies are spreading cancer throughout the Commonwealth. Look at are politicians fishing on a private lake we built for him with our tax dollars. Look at Schuylkill County the polluted capitol of the country in which tumors are grown while the big Senator turns his head to environmental crimes. Even the state police are making news for corruption again. This is what happens when are governor took over and left the drug loards in office. Vote for change or live with cancer.

PA is pretty bad, but you have to look at NY, NJ and MA, I think they are worse.

All very good points but one thing is for sure: as citizens and taxpayers in this Commonwealth, the people have lost control of the reins. When the Governor can take the turnpike and turn control of it over to an outside source EVEN THOUGH THE PEOPLE ARE SCREAMING 'NO'...that is loosing control. When the people are screaming for a constitutional convention and our legislators sit and scratch their heads about it, don't act on what the PEOPLE want, the people who put them there, that too is loosing control. Unless the people gather together and start using the power that our forefathers gave us to use over our elected representative...the people will NEVER have control. Personally, I wish there was a way to totally suspend our state government and start over again. Corruption is rooted so deep in PA., it'll take a complete rebuild of our constitution...BY THE PEOPLE...not by these career crooks. Its about time the people tell their legislators what WE want to do.

This is getting notice outside of the state and dragging Pennsylvania's image down.

"HOW BAD IS the Pennsylvania Legislature?
So bad, they're talking about it in Washington."

John Baer: Pa. Legislature: Too bad, so sad
By John Baer
Philadelphia Daily News

Daily News Political Columnist

HOW BAD IS the Pennsylvania Legislature?
So bad, they're talking about it in Washington.

The Brookings Institution, the oldest think tank in America, a centrist (leaning left) nonprofit, almost always referred to as "the prestigious" Brookings, held a daylong round table this week on our own beloved Legislature.

More than 30 smart people from academia, foundations and reform- and issues-oriented groups, all with Pennsylvania ties, gathered for a work-through-lunch day of idea pitching.

Oh, yeah, two journalists were there (not sure why, maybe as witnesses)- the Inky's Chris Satullo and myself.

They ALL have problems and it boils down to one thing...who do these legislators work for? Who pays their salary? Who should they be answering to? Can you steal from your boss and get away with it? Can you change your boss's company policy, and get away with it? Can you decide which rules you will follow and which rules you will not, or change the rules when you want to, and get away with it? Dammn right you can't! But...why can our legislators? Good question.

I wish that we had this simple a solution, but the corruption in Harrisburg has been bi-partisan. The only main difference is that the Republicans threw about 18 legislators out in the '06 primary while the Democrats only threw out 1 or 2.

All of you have no idea just how broadly and deeply corrupt are the workings of Pennsylvania state government. These "bonusgate" indictments are only the tip of the iceberg. Just wait until word gets out about the investigations into the Rendell Administration. No bid contracts awarded as quid pro quo payoffs to campaign contributors, state grants to family members, Rendell's secret accounts, and rigged selections of gambling licenses are a few areas that are being looked into.

Lousiana and Huey Long will have nothing on Fast Eddie and his barnacles when all the dust settles.

George,

Well said and I agree wholeheartedly.

As I state previously on these boards this is a very serious situation in our state government. It must not be swept under the rug as many pro-Democrats want. The fact is it does not matter to me who is caught Rep or Dem.

So, it disturbs me that we hear Democrat crybabies say, like Richard Orloski, lamenting that only Dems are caught.

It does not matter who gets caught. All those Dems and Rep who have already been caught should spend at least 20 years in prison for spending taxpayer money and enriching themselves to buy votes for their candidates.

This is heinous and must not be allowed to continue. This represents that worst of political activities that we all hate. This is akin to stuffing ballot boxes.

Your point that it must go higher in state politicians is accurate. Those caught are hi up in state Democrat politics. You know there has to be more "big" names involved. We taxpayers deserves to know whoever it is.

These illegal activities bypasses the will of the people and corrupts a free voting system.

I agree a nonpartisan investigation needs to be undertaken now to find our how far it goes.

If this in not done we will remain one of the most corrupt states in the union.

The bidding process ?
All bids are supposed to be sealed and locked. It's a simple matter of the bids being locked in a file drawer. So simple that it is no problem to be left in an office and given access to all the bids and then underbid everyone.

We all wondered how an outside contractor could have construction trailers set up inside the Bethlehem Steel and keep underbidding every one ? He was given keys to the locked drawers and easy access to the office where the bids were kept . He was caught looking through the bids but not apprehended . He was trailed by bus to his home and constuction office back in Harrisburg and a stopover at a hospital to treat a broken arm during his flight to avoid arrest.

He left his car in the Bethlehem Steel parking lot and three days later his co-workers came for it. We were told he wouldn't work for Bethlehem Steel again but in a few weeks his company and name appeared on paperwork from a different Steel Plant closer to Harrisburg,? As easy as painting the balls in the lotto machine .

I'd like to print his name and construction company but I just don't think it would be proper to do . If he reads this he knows I kept all the paperwork from this incident and keep an eye out for this particular contractor company.

Oh, during his flight from Martin Towers he leaped over the fence between the Towers and 378 in one jump. Then , had a few drinks at the brewery tavern before the bus trip . He would have won the high jump in the olympics, that fence was about eight feet tall.

Gotta be a Democrat, everybody knows the Democrats are the party of corruption on all levels of government. This writer, when the Democrats get caught, tries to involve Republicans in it.
So typical.
