Wake up! Unemployment is higher than 10 percent! It is a long, deep recession. A "jobless" recovery is predicted. Investors are not lining up to buy the property. It is a slap in the face for Alloway to tell taxpayers they must pony up to pay for a "federally-funded" school that brings no revenue into Franklin County apart from some jobs for teachers' unions. NY 23 had Scozzafava and here we have Alloway who apparently is a tax and spend Liberal Democrat posing as a Republican.

Alloway's push for SSVC is making it clear why the Franklin Co. Republican Party and its chairman, Taylor, are not cheerleaders for him. There just has to be chagrin among the "Reagan Coaltion" too because there is nothing Reaganesque about Alloway's behavior. It would a waste of Federal tax dollars to pump air into the flat tire that SSVC is. When publically-funded schools are available to all children, veterans or otherwise, it is stretch to argue that a SSVC is "must have." Unwrap the flag from around you, Rich, you've got it wrong and you insult veterans in this district of Pennsylvania.

Is the Public Opinion saying the Commonwealth of PA has no intention to dispose (sell) the SSVC property? The P.O. should revisit the governor's spokesman and ask for a definitive "yes" or "no" to the question: Does the state intend to sell the property? If the reply is, "yes" then the state govt. does plan to sell. Logically, there won't be a "firm plan" to sell until there's a buyer who agrees to the terms and conditions of a contract and an actual sale is imminent. This article is just another P.O. creating "news" out of nothing.

There is no plan in place because at this time they can not legally sell the property. The legislature voted to take if off the Dept. og General Services listing of property to be disposed of. Until that is changed, the property will remain the Commonwealth's.

Do you deny that the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania intends to eventually dispose of the property? Why would state govt. leave an asset in limbo especially when the state govt. needs the proceeds of a sale? You say "there is no plan", none at all, period, and the P.O. for some obscure reason uses "firm plan" whatever that means. Firm, schirm.

I'm convinced that I'll be browsing this website a year from now and still seeing SSVC articles. I would just love to know what the PO's stake in all of this is. They will use any miniscule, lame reason to pump out an article about the closing of SSVC. I'm beginning to think the PO looks at this situation as being up there with 9/11 and the Kennedy assassination. Good lord.

Word on the street, from a trusted person at a financial institution, is that Tanya Nitterhouse of SunnyHill Properties already has development engineering in the works for the SSVC buildings and lands. It will be converted into nearly 100 luxury apartments, full-service gym, a restaraunt (a 3-star chef from the central Virginia area has reported agreed to operate it), walking trails, horse stable, and possibly a 9-hole golf course. The working plans are reportedly titled "SunnyVale Heights".

In my opinion, anyone who is for the continued closure of SSVC and against its eventual reopening, is against veterans and their families. It is a veterans benefit that should be retained. If saving tax dollars is all we are concerned with, then why not go to a unicameral form of government and eliminate one entire chamber of the legislature?

Apparently Larry's opinion on this subject is based on the school's self-generated propaganda, which is pure fiction and purposefully misleading, or he has a personal or financial interest in keeping this place open. The Scotland School for Veteran's Children only uses the term "veterans" in its title because the word is self serving – not because it serves veterans and their families. The school is not remotely connected with, or of benefit to, the vast majority of the state's veterans. It has operated for the past twenty years or so for the sole purpose of allowing a small group of Philadelphia families to have Pennsylvania tax payers shell out the money to house and raise their children. As operated in recent years, SSVC was not a veteran’s benefit; it was an outright fraud being perpetrated on Pennsylvania tax payers. Not only should this place not be reopened under those same disingenuous guidelines; those who were responsible for conspiring to commit this fraud in the past should be indicted!

Sorry Mr Ken but there was children attending SSVC that parents was veterans. Once again ignorance reign, do you even know a family with children in the school. I do, including myself (who just so happen to have served 8yrs Army and an alumni). I guessing you never served or talked with parents. So please educate yourself before making these statements.......Peace and Blessings

Daily Horoscope for January 5

Cancer

You've had enough time to yourself lately. This is a day to focus on family, with all the good and bad that that brings. Crabs would much rather be at the top of the tree than down near the roots, but that's life. You might be smart when it comes to matters of the heart, but you don't know it all quite yet.
