U.S. drought most widespread since 1956

Full story: www.cbsnews.com

Fifty-five percent of the continental U.S. was in a moderate to extreme drought by the end of June, NOAA's National Climactic Data Center in Asheville, N.C., said in its monthly State of the Climate drought report. That's the largest percentage since December 1956, when 58 percent of the country was covered by drought.

we had our first garden this year and we spent more money trying to keep it alive then what we saved in in vegetables. this was the worst I'd ever seen it get here in the last 20 years that I lived here.

I agree, my potatoes done fair but everything else is stunted! I am beginning to think it's cheaper to buy off of sellers on the side of the road!

I was born back in the early 50's. Maybe that is why I like hot weather.

Well....that...and there's no snow or ice....

Yes - we did the same thing here. Not our first, but our first good sized garden. The $ spent in watering it... At least the veggies will taste better than those at the supermarket. Also, with the rest of our yard brown, this bright green garden looks a lot better than it really is.

Just can't save a penny in this county can we.

...me/mine, too, reebs....I went trout fishin' the other day, took my lawn chair, and sat bellybutton deep in the river....comes from a spring, 9 million gallons per hour and about 58 degrees...caught more'n trout for Supper, but I'd trade it all for about 5 days of good slow rain....

And the early 60's were snowier than usual. Climate change is a cyclic thing. Up, then down, then up, then down.

Al Gore and his minions can't seem to grasp that, however.

Al Gore and his minions don't WANT to grasp that; there is no money to be made from common sense.

Set them straight, Gacy. Any idiot knows that 100 years of carbon-based emissions- never before seen in the history of the earth- CANNOT possibly have any impact on our climate. You prove that.

And while your at it, Lee Harvey, feel free to explain why we have global 'warming' and yet Greenland is buried under 100 ft of ice and snow today when a couple thousand years ago it was lush and green (ergo,'Green' land).

That's so true also but if you look at Lake Powell, it's the same way and there's not 3 million people there. We have lake Mohave 10 min. away and it's only down less than 3-5 percent. Lake Havasu is the same as ours and they're all being feed from the Colorado river.
