Offer some REALLY good deals on room rates and meals and maybe attractions, then rely on the quantity of visitors increasing to make your mark, unlike the NM State Fair who does the exact opposite. You have to give people a reason to visit with this economy, give them an incentive.

I'm doing my part as I have advised all my friend and acquaintances in Phoenix NOT to visit Ruidoso until they rescind the extortion tax and hubbard gives back our tax dollars. With the reported involvement of the drug cartel at the race track it was not a hard sell.

Found a great deal last year for the State Fair. Room, parking tickets and ride tickets for a very discounted price. The motel had a great buffet breakfast and all of this was included. Plan to go again. I had so much fun. Ruidoso is probably a good place to avoid right now. Lower prices on rooms and food will only bring in more undesirables and will add nothing to the economy.

My point was that I think this would work for Ruidoso, and I don't think it would bring in undesirables as many of them can't afford to travel anyway. You have to give people a reason to visit your site, and from your post its pretty obvious it worked for you at the St Fair, so why not Ruidoso? It also wporked for you as you say you plan to return, so it worked again - repeat customer.

The State Fair reference was to them increasing admission prices, increasing parking fees, increasing vendor fees, then closing two days a week. An unsound business model. It wasn't the St Fair that gave you those discounts, it was the motel and volume of sales as opposed to a higher price and lower volume.

I remember when Motel 6 charged only $20 a night..until the State Fair or the Balloon Fiesta and it was $60 or maybe even higher.

If Ruidoso legalized prostitution and expanded gambling to the village, there would be a much greater appeal to the urban Texans who vacation there seeking a taste of the wild west. They could replace some of the scented candle and gift shops with real saloons and brothels. Other stores could sell cowboy attire and rent Colt 45 six-shooters. Even the village undertaker would see his business pick up.

Make these changes and people would forget about the fire, and Ruidoso would be an international travel destination.

If they did that it'd necessitate replacement of the 'Aliens' with real women<G>. Ruidoso, the vacation mecca of the SW!

If it is 3.20 in Rio Rancho, that means it must be a little below 4.00 in Ruidoso. Ruidoso has the highest gas prices on the planet and it is this type of greed that has killed this town, not the fire.

Checked gasbuddy.com average price Ruidoso $3.64 and at Rio Rancho $3.08 to $3.39. And Roswell average is $2.97 to $3.19. Alamo is $2.99 to $3.45. So who is lying?

Legalized prostitution.....never going to happen because then one would have to pay the person they are screwing and do you really think the Lincoln county commissioners, the chamber of commerce or hubbard will start paying us?

No one is lying the price keeps going down everyday,It is just going down slower than it should. It is satisfying to see an empty gas station with high prices across the street from a busy low priced station. The market forces at work.I buy at smiths market because I have a discount card.Brewers is always empty compared to Smiths.

Daily Horoscope for May 21

Leo

This is a great day for fixing things that have gone wrong. If there have been ructions in your relationship with a certain person this is when you can sort things out and get them back on track. If an appliance or gadget is going on the blink, this is your cue to either get it mended or chuck it out and replace it. You may also find time to tidy up your immediate surroundings or take all those bottles and papers to your nearest recycling center. How virtuous you'll feel when it's all done!
