The story says the $133 million ticket is worht $82 million BEFORE taxes. So what makes it a $133 million ticket? Or is this just another example of the fine journalism we're subjected to daily?

It doesn't say anything about Jamaica being in Suffolk. It says that 3 of the 10 second place tickets were in NY, one of those specifically being in Suffolk -- East Northport.

On the Newsday homepage, this article is under "Suffolk", just like the article about the Brentwood teen being shot is under Nassau.

You have a choice to take todays cash value of $82M which the ticket purchaser elected to do, or the longer term payments which would equal $133M over time. So although it was a $133M jackpot, you are right the purchaser is only taking $82M of which 40% will go to the dooshbhags in DC. so the ticket holder will be getting 60% or $49.2M as one lump sum. Hope they have a good financial plan or they'll be broke in a few years.
