I agree with you in theory....and totally agree with you about the woman who wouldn't return the books, but I did a little research, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't want my six year old looking at. Here's why: http://projectmathetes.files.wordpress.com/20...

They should at least move the book to the "young teens" section.

Yep I kind of got the gist of it from the article and where as it may not be the type of book we’d let our little ones look at some folks would. I personally have no idea why children of this age need this information so the easy cure is, don’t sign it out. It isn’t like children at this age are going to check the book out their self. If these watchdog whiners didn’t have something to piss and moan about they’d probably shrivel up and die. It’s always something with people.
Oh no..Jim and YNG see eye to eye? That's trouble.

Um, I'd be the first one to agree with you that children shoudn't be ashamed of their bodies, but I still think parents should have the right to have a voice pertaining to what their little ones can pull out of the bottom shelf of a library. I think thats fair.

Actually, we see eye to eye on many issues, except that I don't care for hating on entire segments of society based on their nationality or their sexuality. That's what separates me from you, and I have your posts to prove it. Have a nice day.

Personally I wouldn't want my eight year old daughter looking at the book, but that's my own opinion. That said I also think the book should b left there for parents who do feel its appropriate for their families. Just like anything else, if you don't like it don't read it. And, all children are different. I answer questions as they come with my daughter and while a book like that may be too revealing for her, for another family it might not be. To each their own.

No, we don't; but that isn't what the book promotes and anyone moronic enough to think it does, needs a serious dose of common sense.

If my child asks "Whats this" pointing to his or her private parts, I'm going to tell them... if they ask what sex is, Im going to tell them.. they are going to learn sex isn't dirty, the body isn't evil and that they should be proud of who they are... they will learn that sex is NATURAL.. it is how we procreate. They'll be taught why it's good to wait. I'll teach them about abstinence, I'll teach them how to use protection. I will make damned sure my children know everything not from the streets, but from within my own home.. and should they decide, as mature young adults, when to begin having sex.. I will do my very best to be understanding.

If only society wasn't so afraid of the human condition.

Well that's certainly reasonable Jim. I don't like TAKERS and I will be vocal about it. I don't understand you keeping my posts but..to each! I’ll never deny anything I say or have said. Except that is in the rare instances I didn’t say some things. I’ve had people take my quotes and bend the words to their liking. That however in not the case with what you’re referring to.

Wow..Thanks for the link, Jim Trebowski. I'm totally turned on right now. LOLOL.

Geez, I wouldn't even want my teenage son to see this. He'd lock himself in his room with it and I'd never see him again. Well, until he goes blin and then I'd have to take him to the Opthamologist.

NOT appropriate for 6 year olds. They grow up too fast as it is.

Mormon much? What do you consider to be recently? I doubt it was natural in any day and age for a six year old to be doing it. I'm pretty sure only a Pedo would think it's not too young.

No, just kids growing up, mostly.
Things were different back in the old days,(1950's) sex was unmentionable.
People just didn't talk about it. Not to us kids, anyway, because they wanted to protect our innocence. So when a girl got preggo, she HAD to expelled from school, first thing so nobody else could see what was going on. She was tainted, a 'bad girl' and couldn't be allowed to mingle with the innocent students.
So they thought they could protect our innocence by keeping us in the dark. The problem was, kids learned 'all about' sex from other kids. So while the adults assumed their kids’ innocence was safe and sound, their kids were getting a real education from other kids.

This is a tough one. When I was growing up sex was pretty much a taboo subject in the family which made it much more interesting than it should have been. Frankly, whether a child sees this book or not strikes me as far less important than the parent's reaction. Sex, nudity, sex organs, etc, these are all a part of life. I certainly didn't see any of thecdrawings pictured on that web site as erotic in any way. The expressions on people's faces were pleasant and happy. Frankly, I wish I had a resource like this as a child. It would have prevented a lot of speculation on my part and made my transition into adulthood easier.

Back in the days of family farms children saw animals in all stages of reproduction and didnt turn into sexual criminals. In fact, they tended to have healthy attitudes about the subject. Curiosity can lead a child down any number of paths Inc
Using some very troublesome paths. Knowledge, especially when provided by a caring parent, is much better; IMHO.

I certainly don't think the book should be banned. I think the pruned faced yuppie btcs that are offended by it should have their eyeballs burned out. Don't take the book out. I don't really understand why people have chosen the children of the age SIX to discuss this book but if your six year old isn't ready to know about sex..don't teach them bout sex. I didn't and it was pretty easy not to.

I'm for anything that teaches kids about sex in an honest and uncritical way.
I was the product of a father who didn't want me to "learn about sex from the gutter"; so he sat me down and told me the whole thing, with emphasis on things like disease, at the age of 5, after it came out that I'd been playing "Show" with a little neighborhood girl. Result: I was so scared I remained a virgin until I was 45!! Hard to believe, I know, but true!
Then I found out that sex was actually fun, but I was never able to get into things like oral, because ofthat lingering image of filth!
So I think kids should learn how the plumbing works, and that anything concensual and not hurtful is fine, an that they should go for it whenever they choose, and with anyone willing! After all, the main purpose of sex is for pleasure and for sharing love - NOT to produce children!!! That is only secondary!

Jim Trebowski gave a link - I checked it out and saw nothing objectionable in those illustrations! A book like that could be left out where even 5 or 6 year olds could see it, and ask questions. Then parents could give honest and thoughtful answers, even explaining why they think some activities are unwise or harmful. Unless they are almost as scared of sex as I was.
