Finch stands by budget cuts

Full story: Connecticut Post

A day after hundreds of residents turned out to oppose Mayor Bill Finch's proposed 2008-09 budget, the mayor on Thursday said the nearly 4-mill tax hike could have been a lot worse.

This is the same man who was running a campaing on schools and taxes, how he wants better schools and he wants to fix the school system and how he was not planing to raise the taxes but instead would work to lower them. What a crack of *****. Who do we believe when it comes down to elections. He knew the mess he was getting into and he ran in a false pretance and another one that mess Bridgeport People over AGAIN. But now we have another 4 years of high taxes, school cuts, low pay, high gas, high everything. Now why if he wants to cut money, why they don't cut their own pay. Give something back to the city that elected you. Mayb all of them should have a pay cut, is not like they all are working for the Brigeport People.

Start your cuts at the top. First thing he did was initiate a hiring freeze. So, he then hires a "greeter" at city hall with the price tag of $36,000. In fact, rumor has it that two were hired, one for each "city hall". Why are over half of these layoffs coming from one department? With so many different departments and divisions, two people from each will take care of the 90 people you say you need to lay off. We need money for our schools for books, programs. Do we really need a principal and assistant principal (some schools have two asst. principals) in every school? Do we need so many Asst. Superintendants? Start at the top, Mr. Mayor. Lean times mean lean measures. Work your way down and I'm sure you'll find plenty of fat to cut out. Of course, this includes your own office and friends!

The trouble with Bill Finch is that he doesn't get it.... look at his own budget... Andy Dunn a do nothing administrator in Monroe now becomes a do nothing administrator in Bridgeport for over $100,000 in Bridgeport. Perhaps the mayor's administration should be where a lot of the budget cuts should be made. It just looks like a "good ole boy" system. Perhaps a 10% across the board pay cut for anyone working in Bridgeport who earns over $70,000 per year would make a sizeable dent in the deficit. Shall I go on?

That, and go after the deadbeat business and property owners that owe MILLIONS and haven't paid squat for how long now? There's where your money is, Finch. Go get the ones that still OWE THE CITY TAXES and leave the schools alone.

(formerly known as Bronx nat. Bpt. res.)

Are my eyes deceiving me or am I reading right? Did this joker just state that "There's a new sheriff in town" and He's gonna crack down on tax scofflaws?? Oh My God...this guy is a laugh. He should start with his Buddy, DiNardo, who he just gave a tax break to, and who owes more than 8.9 million in taxes, and over $800,000 of his own personal back property tax.
Shall the sheriff clean his own house while he's at it?
As far as the new Sheriff remark, "come on, everybody knows that when there's a new sheriff in town , he shows his face to the towns people, who HE works for"
The so-called new sheriff didn't even show his face at City Hall.
I would like to take this time to make a point as far as cutting down on library staff and closing school health clinics in the schools.
First off, most children, contrary to popular belief, do not own computers at home, so they need these libraries and the staff to help them with the reading materials they need to do their school work. Unless you have a Librarian, who's name is C-3PO, then I suggest leaving the staff in place. Bridgeport only has but a handful of libraries, that are a good distance from eachother, You can't possibly expect these children to take a couple of buses to get to a library that is appropriately staffed, just so they can do their projects and research.
Secondly, Schools need an emergency health care unit staffed with a nurse in each and every school. What planet has this, Sheriff, been living on?
Cause this one, is full of children, that bring knives, box cutters and guns to school. If ever needed, the nurse and the schools health care unit would be the first line of care before paramedics arrive and transfer victims to the hospitals.
What say You???
Mr. Finch, the Dyslexic Mayor, states that He is going forward with HIS plans , no matter the opposition...
No matter what the people say he will not sway...
Is this a Mayor that is needed in this city? I say "NO",
What Say You?

1st things 1st, Finch is a coward. The whole "lightning rod" comment is just an excuse for him not have to deal with the angry Bpt Residents that came out to support & stand up for the city.
It shocks me to read that although we don't have enough money in the budget to keep our library staff at what it is, continue to fund all 10 SBHC, keep property tax at what it is & keep the 90 employees from being laid off we do however have funds to allow Mr. Finch to hire a "debt collection agency" to "crack down" on the abusers that owe the city 40+ million in taxes. It also amazes me to see how DiNardo owes the city more than 9 million in back taxes, has had property foreclosed by the city BUT yet receives a tax break by Mr. Finch. GREAT JOB Mr. Finch!!! Where do I sign up for a tax break???
I am tired of us Bpt residents getting the shorter end of the rope. Why should any child have to attend a classroom that is over crowded because the BOE couldn't afford to hire more teachers? Why should I have to pay more taxes on my property because DiNardo and many like him owe the city millions of dollars in backed taxes?
How about if I don't want to pay my taxes, will that be ok with Mr. Finch and his friends? I can't afford to pay the taxes on my property this year, can I get a "tax break" Mr. Finch?

You know what is sad that so many people from Bridgeport took the time needed to try and oppose this and it did NOTHING. That is so disheartening. I can't believe he is doing this to this poor overwhelmed city. I knew this was going to happen-thats why I didn't vote for him. I think we need to write a petition and send it to the governors office. I say we go above his head and have help from bigger people....somebody has got to help!!!!

Finch is a liar a fraud and a coward. He's lied and broken every single promise he made on the campaign trail. He creates jobs for cronies (like this guy Nunn)at over$ 100,000.Then he wants to raise our taxes, and cut school nurses.Meanwhile his 'buddy' Sal owes more than ten million in taxes. We need to demand that this imbecile resign.Finch was even too cowardly to show up at city hall for the budget meeting.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Scorpio

Today's Lunar Eclipse at the Full Moon stirs up powerful emotions during the next two weeks (as it has done since the Gemini Solar Eclipse last month), and it may not be a very pleasant experience. Are you feeling rather compulsive and obsessive? Financial issues could be a problem,, especially if they appear to threaten your sense of emotional security. Don't let jealousy or envy make you do things that will set other people against you.
