Quest to save little library triumphs

Do not think about closing family or educational institutions that serve the public, pull your head out.
You want to save money then here is a blackhole where tax dollars are not even justified because of its current debt-the ZOO! The El Paso Zoo is a tragic example of money that does not impact positively in the community. The Zoo is an example of poor management and misallocation of resources. The entire financial structure is flawed from the top down. The Director has his management team are a horrendous example of how to run an organization. If it were not for us (taxpayers) infusing our tax dollars into the zoo in the hopes it would lend a return, the zoo would be considered a corrupt and unjustified organization. Zoos are great places to enjoy but the El Paso Zoo is more of a liability. Go to the Zoo and you will see what I mean, animals are not out on exhibition, the grounds are not maintained, the cost certainly does not justify the visit. |

The Westside library is adjacent to major bus routes (Routes 15 and 18 on Mesa St.) and another route has its stop across from the library. Because this library is very accessible to those who ride the bus and drive cars, and thus more available to the public, that alone is a good reason to leave the library open.(Believe it or not, there are many people on the Westside whose only means of transportation is walking and the bus.)
@ An Idea: The Zoo is an educational facility/institution that is undergoing extensive renovations and major expansion. During this time, the Zoo may not be in its top form. But, it is still pursuing its missions of animal care and educational outreach. Give it one year more and you will be very impressed with our small but very good Zoo. |

There is a very nice even newer library branch 2 miles away on Redd road that the bus runs past as well. If you don't like that one there is another new library branch 2.7 miles away on S. Desert. It is wasteful and irresponsible to keep that many branches open that close together. Those agencies that tax the citizens have a responsibility to ensure that that tax money is being spent wisely and 3 branches within that proximity are unnecessary.

@Wake Up El Paso: The only bus route serving the libraries you mention is Route 17. It requires transferring from another bus route if you are coming from the Westside library area, and so is not as direct as the three Mesa St. routes (14, 15 and 18). Thus, those two libraries are not as convenient as the Westside library. Libraries are for all citizens and, as such, should be convenient to travel to for all citizens.

Then perhaps one of the Westside library branched should have been built on the Northeast side of town which only has one branch. |
