Indigo-I either read or saw it on TV that they did indeed have some kind of in home Security system.but it was turned off that night for what ever reason.
I stick to what I said above about Security-inside and out.
Rodney is right they more than likely thought they were safe in Boulder-wrong.
I also agree with Henrietta about the Pedophiles in Boulder, they may have completly overlooked that.what a mistake with JB looking way above her age and out in public so much.this was a disaster waiting to happen.
I think the killer or killers watched them very close for maybe as long as a year, they knew everthing about their routine as a family.and most of all new the layout of the house and grounds.these guys wasn't stupid.but the Ramseys helped set themselves up by being stupid about little things they should have been aware of.this is not the first time this has happened and it want be the last.

Hi Jack,
According to Frank Coffman, a native resident of Boulder, the Ramseys were not really considered by most to be a high profile family. JonBenet may have been known in the pageant circle, but she was not famous in Boulder. The Ramseys did have a securtiy system, but didn't set it, bacause they said it was too loud, I believe.
I have a niece in country on the edge of a smaller sized town. She married into a multimillion dollar family, and they were raised in that town so everyone knows them. They have two small daughters.
NO SECURITY SYSTEM!! I just asked her last week if they had one. She said "are you trying to scare me?" dah... you would think after listening to the news everyday they would know better...

Just think IF the Ramsey's had good Security inside and out how hard it would have made it for the killers to have got in,plus they would have left more good evidence.
I'm sure they could have still got in,but they would have to worked twice as hard to do it.and the chance of leaving evidence would be great.
It wouldn't have been easy to disable all the lights and Alarms.

This is from the JonBenet-Ramsey.com website with regard to why the Ramseys didn't use their burglar alarm:

"In 1993, John and Patsy were talking when suddenly an ear splitting siren filled the house. John bolted forward in his chair. Patsy’s eyes widened as if she’d just grabbed a 220-volt wire. John realized that the unbearably loud noise was the burglar alarm going off.

Patsy ran for the back entry hall, and there was three year old JonBenét standing on a stool with her fingers on the alarm system panel. Apparently, she’d been reaching for the button to open the garage door and hit the buttons on the alarm systems instead.“This makes my ears loud,” JonBenét said putting her hands over her ears.

Patsy grabbed her and tried to turn the system off, but she suddenly realized that she didn’t have any idea what the numeric code was to disarm the system. Patsy had already put JonBenét in our car inside the garage to protect her ears when the police arrived.

After 30 agonizing minutes, the deafening system finally timed out and quit."

This and just being careless led to what would be losing their Daughter. If John and Patsy had just did the things they should have in the line of Security-inside and outside of the house.it would have been a different ballgame.
But if it happened as some of you have suggested lately.and the Ramseys killed JB then all the Security in the world wouldn't have made any difference.
But hold that thought,we may have a problem with that Theory.I would need some proof and evidence that they indeed did the killing.so far I haven't seen that.
Who staged the place the real killer or killers or John and Patsy that is the question.
Back to the Security if the police came on the situation as Henrietta talked about above, then it was a good system that was tied into the police station.I wonder if it was already installed when the Ramsey's purchased the House or did they have it installed?if they had it installed then someone-John or Patsy must have been worried about Security.

I have never questioned the Ramseys about their burglar alarm. I'm not sure the answer to Jack's question can't be found quite simply somewhere.

I suspect what happened is that when the Ramseys purchased the Boulder house, which I think was in 1991, the burglar alarm had been installed by the previous owners. The reason I say this is that when the alarm later went off by accident, which I think was 1993, Patsy seemed to have no idea about the number code to press in order to turn the thing off.
Either that, or the Ramseys must have rarely used the alarm.

Newsweek once reported that a lot of people in Boulder leave their houses unlocked. I don't know how true that is. In the Dr Jeffrey MacDonald case
there was talk that the MacDonald family often left their back door unlocked, and Dr MacDonald said his mother always left the doors unlocked.

I have always been skeptical about this talk of an intruder seeing an alarm light in the house and then deciding to go to the basement in order to avoid the alarm going off. I don't know if the Ramsey alarm system was very old-fashioned. Somehow I doubt that.

My experience of burglar alarms is that when they're activated anything that moves inside the ground floors, or anybody that tampers with a front or back door immediately sets the whole thing off.

I remember once waking up in the middle of the night to some strange noises and banging in our house. A couple of seconds later there was an ear-splitting alarm going off. We never saw any sign of forcible entry, and we never contacted the police, but it could have been burglars.

Henrietta. The point could be made that the killer knew that the alarm wasn`t set because Fleet told him but he wanted to make it appear that he didn`t know the alarm wasn`t set and thus came and went by the window. But then somehow he went out the door left the bat and apparently went out the other door and left the golf club with Jonbenet`s hair on it. That suggests he had Fleet`s key.
I think it is pretty clear that no one used the window to come in or go out of as there probably would have been some foot prints in the snow somewhere around the house. I think they may have tried to put her in the suitcase and try to get it out the window, but that did not work. I think we need to stick with the KEY theory.

If someone was thinking they might want to put JBR in a suitcase they would have had to consider this quite a bit earlier cause if they waited too long she would be too stiff probably to put in as she wouldn't bend probably. So if there was anything to any suitcase theories it would be earlier in the crime.

Well, this was a Smit's theory, not mine, but I don't think you stiffen up that quick - I don't think they stayed around too long after the murder.

Well Deb you can have almost any theory that you want. I personally believe that the window was used, that this snow on the ground was so insignificant that it`s mainly B.S., that the putting her in the suitcase is even more ridiculous. Standing on the suitcase to get out is one thing, but she would easily have fit in that suitcase. I repeat, she would easily have fit in that suitcase. The point was that they try to say that he tried to take her out the window in the suitcase. What he did to make them think that was, he took the cloth that was JAR`s out of the suitcase and rubbed it on her clothes that she had on and on her privates, leaving fibres. How did the fibres get on her privates area or the oversize panties if she had on longjohns???
Well, I don't think people are that detailed when it comes to thinking in the middle of a crime. But, if they wanted to make someone else look guilty, that may be. Far-fectched, but possible.

That crime was thought out far in advance by a cold calculated murderer. IMO most of what makes the Ramseys look guilty is peoples imaginations and the tabloid stories. The killer didn`t even try that hard to make them look guilty.
