LOL!!!

President Bush Signs Secure Fence Act

THE PRESIDENT: Thank you all. Thanks. Please be seated. I'm pleased that you
all are here to witness the signature of the Secure Fence Act of 2006. This
bill will help protect the American people. This bill will make our borders
more secure. It is an important step toward immigration reform.

I want to thank the members of Congress for their work on this important
piece of legislation. I welcome you here to the White House. I'm looking
forward to signing this bill.

President George W. Bush signs H.R. 6061, the Secure Fence Act of 2006, in
the Roosevelt Room Thursday, Oct. 26, 2006. Pictured with the President are,
from left: Commissioner Ralph Basham of U.S. Customs and Border Protection;
Chief David Aguilar of U.S. Customs and Border Protection; Congressman Peter
King, R-N.Y.; Congressman John Boehner, R-Ohio; and Deputy Secretary Michael
Jackson of the Department of Homeland Security; and Senator Bill Frist,
R-Tenn. White House photo by Kimberlee HewittI appreciate the Vice President
joining us today. I thank the Deputy Secretary, Michael Jackson, of the
Department of Homeland Security. Rob Portman -- he happens to be the
Director of OMB. I want to thank Ralph Basham, who is the Commissioner of
the U.S. Customs and Border Protection. David Aguilar is the Chief of the
U.S. Border Patrol.

I appreciate the fact that Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist has joined us,
as well as House Majority Leader John Boehner. I appreciate them coming in
from their respective states as I sign this piece of legislation. I want to
thank Congressman Peter King, who's the Chairman of the Homeland Security
Committee in the House of Representatives. I appreciate you being here,
Peter.

Ours is a nation of immigrants. We're also a nation of law. Unfortunately,
the United States has not been in complete control of its borders for
decades and, therefore, illegal immigration has been on the rise. We have a
responsibility to address these challenges. We have a responsibility to
enforce our laws. We have a responsibility to secure our borders. We take
this responsibility seriously.

Earlier this year, I addressed the nation from the Oval Office. I laid out
our strategy for immigration reform. Part of that strategy begins with
securing the border. Since I took office we have more than doubled funding
for border security -- from $4.6 billion in 2001 to $10.4 billion this year.
We've increased the number of Border Patrol agents from about 9,000 to more
than 12,000, and by the end of 2008, we will have doubled the number of
Border Patrol agents during my presidency.

We've deployed thousands of National Guard members to assist the Border
Patrol. We've upgraded technology at our borders. We've added
infrastructure, including new fencing and vehicle barriers. We're adding
thousands of new beds in our detention facilities so we can continue working
to end catch and release at our southern border. During the course of my
administration we have apprehended and sent home more 6 million people
entering our country illegally. And I thank the Border Patrol for their hard
work.

Obama's budget proposal cuts border fence funds

WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama's budget blueprint Thursday canceled
plans to extend the border fence along the U.S.-Mexico border beyond the 670
miles already completed or planned, symbolically breaking with a
much-heralded approach to border security advocated by President George W.
Bush.

The Obama administration's turnabout left limited funds for roads, lights
and so-called tactical infrastructure - but not a dime to extend the
pedestrian fencing and vehicle barriers erected along roughly one-third of
the nation's 1,947 mile border with Mexico.

As a Democratic senator representing Illinois, Obama joined 79 other
senators in 2006 to support construction of the barrier system.

The top financial officer at the Department of Homeland Security, Peggy
Sherry, and her team told reporters in a telephone conference call that the
Obama administration would not extend the barrier network that has irked
Mexico and stirred concerns among immigrant-advocate organizations.

Stand With Arizona

The Obama Administration today announced a virtual amnesty-by-decree for
hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens, whose deportations will be
"indefinitely delayed". In addition,

******Obama finally announced a jobs
program - but for ILLEGAL ALIENS, not citizens - as those 300,000 illegals
will also become eligible for "work permits".******

This action represents an administrative end-run around Congress, which
twice rejected the 'DREAM Act' in 2010. As disgraceful as is this usurpation
of Congressional authority, this announcement is even worse than is being
reported.

Our analysis reveals that - despite media focus of this action limited to
so-called "Dreamer" illegal students, this new policy, coupled with the
criteria established by the June 2011 "Morton Memos" which set up a joint
"DHS and DOJ working group" could expand this "indefinite delay" of
deportation to potentially MILLIONS of illegals - creating a new, massive
amnesty entirely by fiat, bypassing Congress.

LOL!!!

Unguarded border bridges could be route into US

ACALA, Texas - On each side of a towering West Texas stretch of the $2.4
billion border fence designed to block people from illegally entering the
country, there are two metal footbridges, clear paths into the United States
from Mexico.

The footpaths that could easily guide illegal immigrants and smugglers
across the Rio Grande without getting wet seem to be there because of what
amounts to federal linguistics. While just about anyone would call them
bridges, the U.S.-Mexico group that owns them calls them something else.

"Technically speaking it's not a bridge, it's a grade control structure,"
said Sally Spener, spokeswoman for the International Boundary and Water
Commission, which maintains the integrity of the 1,200-mile river border
between the U.S. and Mexico. The structures under the spans help prevent the
river - and therefore the international border - from shifting.

Whatever they're called, there are fresh sneaker tracks on the structures -
indicating they're being used as passages into the country.

"This is outrageous and yet another example of the federal government
failing miserably in its duty to secure the border from those who wish to do
us harm, and they need to take immediate action to address this situation,"
Katherine Cesinger, spokeswoman for Texas Gov. Rick Perry, said in a
Wednesday statement.

Big Bend to get informal US-Mexico border crossing

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (AP)- The U.S. has approved a plan to allow informal
crossings between American and Mexican territories inside remote Big Bend
National Park.

Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Alan Bersin visited Big Bend
yesterday and said construction on a crossing through Boquillas Canyon,
which encompasses part of the park and Mexican protected lands, would begin
in July.

He said the first boat carrying people back and forth is set to start
crossing the Rio Grande in April 2012.

*The crossing will not have customs but will require Americans to show
passports to immigrations officials.*

*Mexicans crossing must have U.S. visas.*

The U.S. government has warned Americans against traveling to parts of
Mexico because of drug violence, but Bersin said violence and illegal
immigration are under control in such an isolated area.

Battle For The Border: Unmanned Bridges

Reported by: Erica Proffer

Last Update: 11/03 11:29 pm

LOS INDIOS - CHANNEL 5 NEWS cameras caught two international bridges
unguarded and vulnerable.

Around 11 p.m., we watched three men stand guard at the Los Indios
bridge. Only one officer checked northbound traffic. The other two looked
relaxed and were talking. There was no K9 unit around to check for drugs.

At midnight, the bridge closed. The workers here go home. A fence and
barriers stop vehicles from crossing. We take a closer look and see it
wouldn't be hard to get through.

CHANNEL 5 NEWS heads to the Donna International Port of Entry. It's
11:45 p.m. All the gates are closed. It appears the bridge is locked. A
barbed-wire, chain-linked fence is another barricade, but one you could find
a way over if you wanted. It's the only roadblock between illegal entry and
the U.S.

The nearest watchtower is at rest. There's no officer is in sight. Our
crew sat for an hour and saw no one at the bridge. No one was watching the
gate standing between Mexico's drug war and us.

The only person around is a single employee at a nearby water district
pump-house.

As we get close, lights go out. The man inside in the pump-house calls
for backup.

Border Patrol agents show up soon after. They weren't scheduled to be
here, but they would take the lookout now.

We return to the Los Indios bridge at around 2:15 a.m. Two Customs and
Border Protection cars are parked out front. It's clear no one is inside. We
walked up to the bridge to check things out. The inspection station is
empty. If we wanted to do harm, no one could stop us.

If we wanted to enter the U.S. from Mexico, it appears no one could
tell. Local leaders admit this lapse in security puts us at risk.

"Sometimes you'll build a bridge and at the federal level, we do not
have the manpower to man them. Then, why build them?" said Cameron County
Judge Carlso Cascos.

"I think it's obvious that there is a problem. You do see it."

The federal agencies, on the other hand, were not so forthcoming. We
showed Customs and Border Protection what we'd found.

CBP Port Director Michael Freeman said, "We have to look at the
threat - at what we're doing. Do we break what we're doing to see if
someone - who doesn't seem like a threat to us. if there is someone there
taking a picture?"

CHANNEL 5 NEWS' crew had no marked equipment and arrived at the
bridges in an unmarked vehicle.

We asked the port director if we're safe.

"We're always safe. If we're not safe, then we're not doing our job.
We can't just leave a facility unmanned," he said.

Yet we found two Valley ports of entry that appear from every angle to
be just that.

A year ago, CHANNEL 5 NEWS showed you a swing bridge in West Texas
that Border Patrol officers drove right by as Mexican nationals walked
across. How many others are there?

Just across the river, a war rages on. America's ports of entry are an
important detail for all of us in the battle for the border.

Bush Proposed Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac Supervision In 2003

Under the plan, disclosed at a Congressional hearing today, a new agency
would be created within the Treasury Department to assume supervision of
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the government-sponsored companies that are the
two largest players in the mortgage lending industry.
The new agency would have the authority, which now rests with Congress, to
set one of the two capital-reserve requirements for the companies. It would
exercise authority over any new lines of business. And it would determine
whether the two are adequately managing the risks of their ballooning
portfolios.
The plan is an acknowledgment by the administration that oversight of Fannie
Mae and Freddie Mac - which together have issued more than $1.5 trillion in
outstanding debt - is broken. A report by outside investigators in July
concluded that Freddie Mac manipulated its accounting to mislead investors,
and critics have said Fannie Mae does not adequately hedge against rising
interest rates.
But Democrats in Congress, also known as "the caucus perpetually on the
wrong side of history," were having none of this "responsibility" stuff.
"These two entities - Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac - are not facing any kind
of financial crisis," said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the
ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee."The more people
exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies,
the less we will see in terms of affordable housing."
Representative Melvin L. Watt, Democrat of North Carolina, agreed.
"I don't see much other than a shell game going on here, moving something
from one agency to another and in the process weakening the bargaining power
of poorer families and their ability to get affordable housing," Mr. Watt
said.
The proposal worked its way around Congress for a couple of years. Efforts
at reform of the kind proposed by President Bush were shot down by Democrats
each time.
During this period, Sen. Richard Shelby led a small group of legislators
favoring reform, including fellow Republican Sens. John Sununu, Chuck Hagel
and Elizabeth Dole. Meanwhile,[Democrat in bed with the mortgage industry
Chris] Dodd - who along with Democratic Sens. John Kerry, Barack Obama and
Hillary Clinton were the top four recipients of Fannie and Freddie campaign
contributions from 1988 to 2008 - actively opposed such measures and further
weakened existing regulation.
According to OpenSecrets.org , between 1988 and 2008 Dodd received $133,900,
Kerry $111,000, Clinton $75,550, and Obama - in only 143 days in the
Senate - received a whopping $105,849 from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
Pennsylvania Democrat representative Paul Kanjorksi, who also opposed new
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac regulations, was given more than any other member
of the House of Representatives. He was paid $65,500 by representatives of
these entities.
And, in case you were wondering, John McCain co-sponsored a bill requiring
greater Fannie Mae / Freddie Mac regulation in 2005. It was also blocked
procedurally by Democrats.

The 2003 New York Times article was unearthed by a Free Republic poster.

Good for you I was adopted when I was 5 years old in Jacksonville Florida. In 2001 I found 13 members of my family. Great reunion.

Not sure what your intentions are about sharing information with your adopted 8 year old, but it helps out to have an accurate medical history.

we were going to adopt his two brothers [11&13] with him but they got in trouble and ended up in juvey. they are doing fine but they can not be unsupervised around children under ten. our son was under ten. we visit them every year. some how we received the complete unedited file of all the court records concerning his mother. really bad stuff. he however was never part of what she was doing. we will some day show him but i think his brothers might tell him first. it was so bad that the judge ordered that we have a birth certificate that lists us as the birth parents.

now that might be an interesting fact on another topic.

You're feeling slightly unconventional and you're looking for activities that will reflect your mood. You certainly won't be very keen on doing things that are drearily predictable or boring, although you'll grit your teeth and get on with them if you have no choice. But ideally you should do things on the spur of the moment, preferably in the company of people who make you feel alive and alert.
