Most of the southern part of the Americancontinent is speaking that language to. Canada can switch to French, and all languageproblems are solved:-)

I agree with you, Kate. I don't have a problem with immigrants coming to the US but do it legally like my relatives had to and learn the language which has always been language for centuries. I don't think WE should have to ADAPT to Spanish or any other language. This is our country not the immigrants. If they want to make their language our national language then they should stay in their own countries. How hard is that to understand?

As for the latin on our currency.....it's latin not Spanish or any other language. I don't have a problem with latin.....I mean....how many countries in this day and age speak latin???

There was a radio commentator the other day here in Ky talking about the State Police giving license tests in 22 languages.The Police decided to save money with the downturn in the economy and their lower cut,and give these tests in English only.The Governor promply stopped this and so we still have 22 languages.Why?How stupid is this?We have all these persons now with licenses that can not speak nor understand English .They can not read the signs.They can not converse with anyone at accident scenes.Mostly, they just leave.One thing Obama could do would be to decree English as the National language.Save some money we are in need of.But that might offend someone.Never mind the citizens,here.

I know what yall are saying. if they can't read, but are allowed to get driver lic. then how can they read or understand, street signs? How did they even read the test questions if in English? I feel that ANYONE that wants to come to our country legelly they need to learn our language.

Hey Q, wasn't Latin the basis for much of the English language?

I watched a couple discovery shows and they explained the phrases and symbols on our currency but I've completely forgotten it. The explanation made perfect sense at the time, so I just accepted it and moved on. I could kick myself now.

Spanish has more in common with Latin than English does.

I'm sorry but after doing a little research, I found Spanish to have no more in common with Latin than English has. I found a significant number of English words, especially technical words, have been constructed based on roots from Latin and ancient Greek. Spanish language has its origin in LATIN language. Languages like Latin, Germanics, etc, come from the Indo-European Language, which is the "mother" of many of the languages spoken nowadays.

If Spanish has its origin in Latin language and English and Latin have their origin in Indo European language, then I can only surmize that spanish has no more in common with Latin than English does.

This is only my opinion. However, I welcome your perspective on how Spanish and Latin have more in common then English and Latin do. Thank you.
