My cousin was attacked by Africanized bees. We should think about denying them driving priveleges and maybe they will fly back to Africa!

New Mexico has fewer illegal aliens now than when we began giving them driving priveleges. And states that have revoked their driving priveleges have not seen a significant reduction in numbers as a result. The issue is purely ideological and does NOTHING to address border problems in any way.

The policy of giving them a license that does not identify them as illegal or differentiate them from a US Citizen is stupid, and in my opinion needs to be changed. But the issue of driving priveleges is nothing but a political wedge issue designed to divide us into one herd of sheep or the other.

Sure, most people here think the policy is screwed for one reason or the other and I am behind changing it. But it is not an issue that most New Mexians feel is near and dear to their lives or that will make a big difference. The only ones clamoring for changes in the law are the few big mouthed partisans. The balance of the 70% are normal, level headed citizens that see the law has been implemented poorly and want to see it fixed.

I thought there were several good compromises offered and most of them addressed the problem of illegals being falsely indentified as a citizen. That would have beena great step in the right direction. But partisan infighting has killed any chance of progress and given us this unsolvable problem that is absorbing millions of dollars and yeilding the people NOTHING in return.

Just politicians sticking it to the public and refusing to do their jobs.

Psst. It's easy to get fake licenses. They match you up with someone else who has the same description. The fakes cost about $15 to make but sell for $300-$400. They are not identical but are very, very hard to detect, and very few people have ever gone to prison for selling them.

So it doesn't really matter whether we officially issue licenses to undocumented people. The argument is heated because there's great symbolism on both sides of the issue. Ultimately it's about as important as whether the Broncos or the Cowboys are better. Yaay team.

Anyone who tells you different most likely believes we're effectively stopping people from importing, distributing, buying, growing, or smoking pot. Those laws (and the ones against immigrants) help stupid people sleep better at night and provide good paying jobs to people in law enforcement, but are otherwise useless at best.

Nice deflection but you forgot that our DL's have 21 different security featured in them. They are hard to detect because LE and the court system refuse to look closely and use those features which we all pay for.

Correct, and why I've said earlier that w/o enforcement of our laws, nothing will change with respect to ILLEGALS or anything else. And with the Obama refusing to enforce the very laws he swore an oath to uphold, along with Holder and others, the outlook is grim. If they did hold true to their word then this would pretty much be a non issue. However it started before the Obama and those jokers were just as much to blame for our present travesty as is the Obama. But he's the jefe now and its up to him to fix, which he refuses to do.

Bringing it to the local level where this thread is so I'm back on topic, Richardson and DoNothingDenish are to blame along with the legislature for non enforcement of our NMDL laws and the influx of ILLEGALS in NM for that very reason - NMDL's for all. The former two are gone, now we have to oust the remaining vermin in the legislature. Not just for the NMDL/ILLEGAL BS but for numerous other reason besides. NM needs a fresh start and deserves better.

Making things illegal doesn't make them go away when the government authorities who are sworn to uphold the law break their vow and refuse to do so.

The laws must be enforced. If that means mass deportations, let them begin today.
