Crowing roosters ruffle feathers
By Kerry Cavanaugh, Staff Writer
Article Last Updated: 05/07/2008 11:22:30 PM PDT

If the City Council gets its way, Angelenos (illegal aliens) can still have chickens come home to roost - but only one of them can be a rooster.

Cock-a-doodle-do-ing in the wee hours of the morning, illegal backyard cockfighting and odors have led to a surge in neighborhood complaints from the northeast San Fernando Valley to Compton.

But the city has nothing on the books to control its noisy fowl problem.

“We deal with barking dogs, why can’t we deal with crowing roosters?” asked Janice Hahn, the councilwoman who proposed Wednesday limiting roosters to one per household.

Now, most Los Angeles residents can have only three cats and three dogs. But the sky is the limit on roosters.

“We’re talking about suburban streets and homes where people … have 1,000 roosters,” said Deputy City Attorney Bob Ferber, who heads the city’s Animal Protection Unit.

[The Conservative Voice] LOS ANGELES, CA - Barack Obama Crusades for Driver's Licenses for Illegal Aliens

"Barack Obama is easily winning the African American vote, but to woo Latinos, where he is running 3-to-1 behind rival Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, he is taking a giant risk: spotlighting his support for the red-hot issue of granting driver's licenses to illegal immigrants."

""Sen. Obama has said you get a driver's license if you know how to drive. And that message I think will resonate in the Latino community as we get closer to California."

LOS ANGELES Amid all the national debate over immigration, at least one firm consensus has emerged: Newcomers to the United States should learn English because it remains the lingua franca of our civic life. All three remaining presidential contenders say that the ability to speak English should be a requirement of U.S. citizenship. And last year, the immigrant governor of California told a convention of Latino journalists that immigrants should watch only English-language TV so they can understand the language and news of their home state. "You've got to turn off the Spanish television set," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger advised the National Association of Hispanic Journalists.
Schwarzenegger is wrong, and so is this new consensus. The error is particularly obvious in cities with the largest immigrant populations, especially Los Angeles, the town the governor calls home. Schwarzenegger could discover ample evidence of this all by himself -- simply by turning on his television.
On most nights here, the most timely, serious and civic-minded local news is not available on the Internet, the radio or any of the half-dozen English-language stations that broadcast nightly shows that purport to be newscasts. At 11 p.m. each night here, the best newscasts in the market appear on two Spanish-language channels, Univision's flagship KMEX and Telemundo affiliate KVEA.

Of course, the far left liberal would do that as he sells the country away. Why should he care about Americans when he can give the country away to other countries?

Claims of ID fraud lead to largest raid in state history
By NIGEL DUARA, WILLIAM PETROSKI and GRANT SCHULTE
REGISTER STAFF WRITERS

Postville, Ia.- The largest workplace raid in Iowa history Monday resulted in the arrest of more than 300 people and reignited the debate over immigration.

As two law enforcement helicopters hovered overhead, dozens of federal agents descended on Agriprocessors Inc., the nation's largest kosher slaughterhouse.

The 300 people arrested represent almost one-third of the plant's 968 workers, and federal officials said the number of arrests could increase. The number is three times as many as were arrested in a raid 18 months ago at the Swift plant in Marshalltown.

Months in planning, Monday's raid involved 16 local, state and federal agencies, led by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). They executed search warrants related to criminal activity, as well as a civil search warrant for people believed to be in the United States illegally.

"This is the largest operation of its type ever in Iowa," said Matt M. Dummermuth, U.S. attorney for the Northern District.

Metcalfe introduces Pa. voter ID bill
Tuesday, May 13, 2008
By Tom Barnes, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
HARRISBURG -- Now that the U.S. Supreme Court has upheld Indiana's law requiring voters to present photo identification, state Rep. Daryl Metcalfe wants to enact the same kind of law in Pennsylvania.

The Cranberry Republican has introduced House Bill 2519, which would require anyone wishing to vote to show one of several forms of photo ID when arriving at a polling place: a valid driver's license issued by PennDOT; a valid state or federal government employee ID; a valid employee ID card issued by an employer; a valid U.S. passport, student ID or armed forces ID; a voter ID card issued by a county registration commission.

Currently in Pennsylvania, only first-time voters have to present a photo ID. Some critics said a photo ID shouldn't be required because some people, especially retired senior citizens who don't drive, may not have a photo ID and thus would be deprived of the right to vote.

North Carolina Community Colleges Will No Longer Admit Illegal Immigrants
Tuesday , May 13, 2008

North Carolina's community colleges will no longer admit illegal immigrants, returning to more restrictive policy on the advice of the state Attorney General's Office.

Last year, the system said it would enroll illegal immigrants who are 18 years old and high school graduates at all of its 58 campuses. The policy provoked heavy criticism, especially from the leading candidates for governor.

Group files ethics complaint against U.S. attorney

AUSTIN -
A conservative Christian group has filed an ethics complaint against a federal prosecutor, arguing that he mishandled the case of two Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug suspect and hiding evidence.

In the complaint, Kentucky-based Christians Reviving America's Values asked the Texas Bar Association to investigate U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton, arguing that he willfully misled the jury to convict Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean.

Sutton's office did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press seeking comment Monday.

A federal jury in Texas convicted Ramos and Compean of assault, obstruction of justice and civil rights violations in the wounding of Osvaldo Aldrete Davila on the Texas border near El Paso in 2005. A federal judge sentenced Compean to 12 years in prison and Ramos to 11 years.

More power to them I hope that they get Ramos and Compean out! Did you see that Davila was convicted of transporting pot several more times?

[ICE] CEDAR RAPIDS, IA - ICE and DOJ joint enforcement action at Iowa meatpacking plant

"U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents executed a criminal search warrant this morning at Agriprocessors, Inc., in Postville, Iowa, for evidence relating to aggravated identity theft, fraudulent use of Social Security numbers and other crimes, as well as a civil search warrant for people illegally in the United States. The announcement was made by United States Attorney for the Northern District of Iowa Matt M. Dummermuth and ICE Special Agent in Charge Claude Arnold.

"This is not the first time this office has been a part of a criminal worksite enforcement operation," said Dummermuth. "However, this is the largest operation of its type ever in Iowa. Agents and officers from federal, state, and local agencies are involved today. The coordination and logistical planning efforts have been going on for months."

"ICE is committed to enforcing the nation's immigration laws in the workplace to maintain the integrity of the immigration system," said Claude Arnold, Special Agent in Charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Bloomington, Minnesota. "We carry out that obligation in a fair and responsible manner, ensuring humanitarian needs are taken into consideration.

Anyone encountered during this operation who is discovered to be in the United States illegally eventually will be placed into administrative removal proceedings. So far, ICE agents have arrested more than 300 individuals for administrative immigration violations."

Mexican Government Meets With U.S. Union Leaders
Posted by: The Watchdog in Pro-Illegal Groups, Reconquistas
Translated from El Universal

A total of 32 union leaders of 18 U.S. districts gathered in the Office of the Secretary of Foreign Affairs (SRE), during the first informative day, whose objective is to generate clear dialogue among them and the government of Mexico.

With the encounter, that initiated on May 1 and will conclude on the 14, the government of Mexico intends to reinforce dialogue with union leaders that routinely fight for the labor rights of the Mexican immigrants in the United States, looking to identify themes of common interest and areas of cooperation.

In a communiqué, the chancellery added that it is “of particular interest to know about the work carried out by the unions, given the important presence that the Mexican workers have in the United States”.
