We run our wars on the same 'video games' you mention. As well as most all scientific modelling, including geologic modelling of oil resovoirs!!!

The Australian scientist who developed his country’s Kyoto accounting protocol says there is no evidence that carbon emissions cause global warming and global warming itself appears to have stopped by 2001, with temperatures now back to 1980 levels.
I am the rocket scientist who wrote the carbon accounting model (FullCAM) that measures Australia’s compliance with the Kyoto Protocol, in the land use change and forestry sector,” he says.“I devoted six years to carbon accounting, building models for the Australian Greenhouse Office.”

When he started that job in 1999, the evidence that carbon emissions caused global warming seemed pretty good, he wrote.

Lo and behold! 10 years ago it was slightly warmer, now it's slightly colder. Pass Kyoto anyway because it empowers more bureaucrats.

""June through September 2007 brought record sea ice melt in the Arctic, well below the previous record low, set in September 2005. According to the National Snow and Ice Data Center (NSIDC), on September 16, 2007, sea ice extent dropped to 4.13 million square kilometers (1.59 million square miles)—38 percent below average and 24 percent below the 2005 record.""

Here are some interesting ones that you might have overlooked;

http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Library/Glob...

""Far from being some future fear, global warming is happening now, and scientists have evidence that humans are to blame. For decades, cars and factories have spewed billions of tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, and these gases caused temperatures to rise between 0.6°C and 0.9°C (1.08°F to 1.62°F) over the past century. The rate of warming in the last 50 years was double the rate observed over the last 100 years. Temperatures are certain to go up further.""

http://earthobservatory.nasa.gov/Newsroom/Med...

""British Antarctic Survey has captured dramatic satellite and video images of an Antarctic ice shelf that looks set to be the latest to break out from the Antarctic Peninsula. A large part of the Wilkins Ice Shelf on the Antarctic Peninsula is now supported only by a thin strip of ice hanging between two islands. It is another identifiable impact of climate change on the Antarctic environment.

Scientists monitoring satellite images of the Wilkins Ice Shelf spotted that a huge 41- by 2.5-square-kilometer [1.6-square-kilometer] berg the size of the Isle of Man appears to have broken away in recent days – it is still on the move.""

Last year was .6 degrees colder, that is the latest data, the most current data. this would indicate GW is in abeyance in not a sham.(hint that is a quote from the UN, it is in abeyance). If co2 levels are higher in 2007 than in 2006 how can it be getting cooler? I thought this was the modus opereni for GHG's? Geeeesshhh! the stupidity of GW fanatics!!!

Have you looked at a map of antarctica? The wilkens ice sheet is an ice sheet between two islands off the coast of the penisula that reaches up towards south america. This is a region of active volcanos.

My atlas shows antarctica on two 11 x 17 pages, the wilkens ice shelf can be covered with the tip of my little finger before it calved. The larsen ice shelf, on the other side of the penisula.

Or, is moral bearing a silly thing to ask of a peacenik?

Don't you love copy and paste quotes! I know you do!
Our Social Security
Franklin Delano. Roosevelt (Terms of Office March 4, 1933, to April 12, 1945), a Democrat, introduced the Social Security (FICA) Program. He promised:
1.) That participation in the Program would be Completely voluntary,
2.) That the participants would only have to pay 1% of the first $1,400 of their annual Incomes into the Program,
3.) That the money the participants elected to put Into the Program would be deductible from Their income for tax purposes each year,
4.) That the money the participants put into the Independent 'Trust Fund' rather than into the General operating fund, and therefore, would Only be used to fund the Social Security Retirement Program, and no other Government program, and
5.) That the annuity payments to the retirees would never be taxed as income.

Question: Which political party removed funds from the Social Security fund and moved it to the General Fund for Congress to Spend! Dwight D. Eisenhower (D) and the Democrats
Since many of us have paid into FICA for years and are now receiving a Social Security check every month -- and then finding that we are getting taxed on 85% of the money we paid to the Federal government to 'Put Away'-- you may be interested in the following:
If I recall correctly, 1958 is the first year that Congress voted to remove funds from Social Security and put it into the General Fund for Congress to spend.
If I recall correctly, it was a democratically Controlled Congress.
From what I understand, Congress logic at that time was that there was so much money in Social Security Fund that it would never run out / be used up for the purpose it was intended / set aside for.

Question: Which Political Party took Social Security from the Independent 'Trust Fund’ and put it into the General Fund so that Congress could spend it?
Answer: It was Lyndon B. Johnson (Democrat, Term Of Office: November 22, 1963 to January 20, 1969) and the democratically Controlled House and Senate.
Question: Which Political Party eliminated the income tax Deduction for Social Security(FICA) withholding?
Answer: The Democratic Party.

Question: Which Political Party started taxing Social Security annuities?
Answer: The Democratic Party, with Albert Arnold Gore, Jr.(Al Gore)[Vice President Term of Office: January 20, 1993 to January 20, 2001] casting the 'tie-breaking' deciding vote as President of the Senate, while he was Vice President of the US
Question: Which Political Party decided to start giving Annuity payments to immigrants?
AND MY FAVORITE:
Answer: That's right! James Earl Carter, Jr.(Jimmy Carter)(Democrat, Term of Office: January 20, 1977 to January 20, 1981) and the Democratic Party.
Immigrants moved into this country, and at age 65, began to receive Social Security payments! The Democratic Party gave these payments to them, even though they never paid a dime into it!

I've never been to a Rush Limbaugh website. I do my research and don't spend my time copying and pasting. What I sent you on the Social Security system is simple historical fact.

Want more facts! Research the Housing Bill that was passed today. Sorry it just happens that a Democrat is in charge, Pelosis, but you will find billions of earmarks attached to that bill.

Fact: Bush should have vetoed the bill. But due to Washington politics he had to sign it to help curb the American and Wall Street emotion on the mortgage crisis!

Fact: All Americans regardless of their party affliation should be outrageded with the money we spent to support the pork barrel spending.

It's BAD WASHINGTON POLITICS

Yes you could call that a “dodge” but there is no reason I should get into a discussion of my moral bearing. It’s irrelevant, what you or I say about our own morals or intelligence. I don’t expect people reading this to take my word for anything. I made the “moral bearing” comment off hand intending it as commentary on a lot of other posts going on about religion. Those posts were however on another thread. My mistake; it was intended as commentary not self-promotion, and I understand the confusion.

What I write has to stand for itself. When I write,“Add “x” to the list of things Doof doesn’t understand”, I am specifically commenting on something Doof has written. I have no knowledge of Doof’s intelligence or morality other than from what he writes, and I don’t pretend to have such knowledge.

But why don’t we stay on topic?

http://www.topix.net/news/global-warming/2008... #87

Which I answered here:
http://www.topix.net/news/global-warming/2008... #93

At which point Doof started into a discussion of Carol Browne (#108). This tread should have ended there. The relevance to AGW is minimal and there isn’t much left to say about the “article”.

Actually it was a blog post, but if anyone is interested, here is another blog post about the first blog post. I especially liked this comment:

“It seems like what they are saying is ‘If you smooth the data and squint alot, you can assume that climate is somewhat coupled to solar behavior (sunspot cycles), because, well, it occilates in the past consistent with what we believe should be the case.”

But don’t take my word for it; read the whole thing:
