Gay Activists Flip Off Ronald Reagan Portrait At White House

Jun 24, 2012 Full story: www.huffingtonpost.com 29

If several raised fingers are any indication, some LGBT activists who visited the White House last week are fully evolved on what they think of President Ronald Reagan.

In a photo, removed from her Facebook page Friday afternoon (but posted here by the Philly Post), Philadelphia photographer Zoe Strauss is pictured waving two middle fingers at Reagan's presidential portrait. She did, at least, have the courtesy to tag Reagan in the photo.

Hart, who said he takes issue with Reagan's handling of the AIDS epidemic, was unapologetic a week later. "[Reagan] was a murderous fool, and I have no problem saying so," Hart told the Philly Post. "Don't invite me back. I don't care." Philadelphia Gay News publisher Mark Segal avoided the explicit gesture in his photo op, settling on a not-so-sincere thumbs-up in front of President George W. Bush's portrait. "I have friends who work in that building," Segal told the Philly Post. "I'm not going to do something that could embarrass them or that could somehow damage a campaign that is so important. 'Be on your best behavior,' my staff told me. I think they know me too well."

Strauss joined Matty Hart, national director of public engagement at Solutions for Progress, in using the White House's 2012 LGBT pride reception to express his distaste for the late Republican president. On Friday, Hart posted a similar photo on Facebook, accompanied by a certain four-letter word and the ex-commander in chief's last name.

Not really. Tired of the usual bullsh!t from the usual suspects. I apologize for nothing I've written nor for my conclusions.

P.S. No stroke. I actually quite calm. Nobody on here is worth having a stroke over.

When are people on your side going to take him to task for his hate and his hate filled words? Until you do, I'm not convinced you have all that much to say that I care to consider about how I address him. How can you complain about others' speech when you do absolutely nothing about disgusting people like Oxy?

It's really beyond the decorum and dignity of the office of the presidency that the late President Reagan should nag and scold homosexuals from enjoying their bath house escapades.
President Reagan was neutral and silent on the issue, the way the government should be.
He was far from neutral. And your obsession with bathhouses is un-nerving.

For some reason every post of yours brings to mind the term "on the down low".

For one, I am not sure who you are even talking about. Two, I don't care. When I log off and get up and leave, this site leaves my head and I never think of it. Topix is a bad little habit of mine.
I spend my days in my studio painting, but take frequent breaks and run up here and diddle on Topix for a while and then leave and go back to work. It is not worth the fuss and bother. I'm sorry you are angry at me. I actually like you, not sure why, but I do. If you are upset about someone that I did not take to task, then I'm sorry. If anyone gets angry and uses VIVID descriptions at some of these loads it is me. HOWEVER, if anyone shows the least bit of respect or humanity, despite being polar opposite to me, I will give that person complete respect in return.

You know that some of these posters are as wild and unreachable as junk yard dogs and are INCAPABLE of being reached with normal human contact. Why waste time trying to placate them?

I'm not angry with you. Where did you come up with that one? Sometimes we agree, sometimes we disagree. That's life. I just wish you'd skewer some of the more virulent gay posters like you skewer the anti-gay posters. I think they do gays no good especially when they go unchallenged.

BS, I'm a big ol' HOMO, whom do you expect me to challenge and criticize? Maybe it is NOT fair for me to let some angry gay posters slide, but I too am angry at times. I just get so sick of it. If I had any sense I would stop logging on here at all.

BTW, I spent a lovely day in Long Beach area and it was so nice to catch up with old pals and neighbors. Nice and COOL also. THAT was a break for us desert folk.

Everybody who deserves it.

I'm a big ol' breeder. Should I not criticize or challenege idiots simply because they're straight?

I agree.

Then you let the bad guys win. Are they worth it?

The idiots, gay and straight alike, aren't worth your anger. Why get upset at stupid people? I see them as cheap entertainment. I enjoy ridiculing/exposing stupid and dishonest hypocrites. It's fun and I figure they're really too stupid to inflict any real damage.

Good for you! I have to see the aquarium there. I hear's it's really extraordinary. And I really should fly out to {Palm Springs some time. There are some serious restaurants that need my opinion.

Be well and happy.
