Quiet battle over gay marriage under way in RI

Full story: WLNE-TV Providence

While jobs and Rhode Island's battered economy continue to dominate this year's legislative races, a quiet battle over gay marriage could determine whether Rhode Island joins six other states in recognizing same-sex marriages.

I thought Weed promised to allow a vote, should it come up. She won't have much choice if the bill passes the House, the Governor supports, and there are enough votes to pass the Senate.

btw, Rhode Island's offical name is the longest state name in the U.S., and about about 3 years ago, the Rhode Island General Assembly voted to allow the people of the state to vote and decide whether to change the name of the state.

Early polls showed the public favoring voting to change the name of the state, but ultimately the proposal was voted down overwhelmingly.

Actually, if you bothered to read the story, the votes are obviously there to pass marriage equality in Rhode Island, but one person is standing in the way of all a vote to happen.

Now go back to surfing the net for gay porn......

What they need to do is target Weeds and run a pro-equality candidate against her. Time for the rich gays in Newport to pony up the bucks and get rid of her.

Well, I'm no expert on Rhode Island (and the Providence Plantations) civics, but doesn't the majority party get to choose the President of the Senate? Just replace her.

I mean, how much power can she have over the legislature with a name like "Weed?"

Rhode Island has no people's veto, so the legislature's decision is final. More importantly, we're talking about 2013 in a very small state surrounded by marriage equality. Pope Ratzy can stomp and stammer all he wants. I don't think the people are going to follow.

Let's see: The Connecticut legislature has voted for marriage equality.

The Vermont legislature has voted for marriage equality.

The New Hampshire legislature has voted for marriage equality.

The Maine legislature has voted for marriage equality.

The New York legislature has voted for marriage equality.

The New Jersey legislature has voted for marriage equality.

It's really not a big stretch to think that Rhode Island's legislature will also concur with marriage equality.

It must suck to be you. You know nothing about me, and look at all those epithets you had to string together just to make yourself feel superior.

Honey, you are not. Your opinion means sh-t in Massachusetts because you are sh-t.

Quite the opposite diaper boy. The seepage is worse from your mouth than is from your ass.
If allowed for a vote it WOULD go down. Same for bltg parenting.

Whether a plebiscite would pass or fail matters not. In Rhode Island, the legislature's decision is final.

It still sucks to be you. Especially since you can't vote in Rhode Island.

Biggest mystery to me is why this is not being repeatedly attacked (not you; the POV) as misrepresentative of truth.

In these 30+ state votes,*lies* are what led to the "ban."

I'm amaaaazed that the pro-gay are not having a field day with this; but ... they never have. They *never* mention it, in fact. They let this "We've won in 32 states!" statistic pass EVERY. damn. time. It's the biggest mystery to me.

It doesn't take much time or effort to explain that if you were taken before a court and *lied about*, that court would render a verdict *against you*. That's what has happened in over 30 states.

When YOUR ILK PERSONALLY hate Obama and feel he should be jailed and this and that, and he *walks free*, you are laughable to complain. You want others to be punished, but you all want to get away with murder.

Daily Horoscope for May 20

Pisces

Your mind is razor sharp today, making it easy to reach decisions and put your thoughts into words. Make the most of this articulate and brainy phase, especially if that means taking part in a discussion or putting your ideas down on paper. If you need to defend your opinions you'll manage to do so without sounding aggressive or dictatorial.
