They should focus on their own issues with the Pedophiles in bad dresses and get out of our bedrooms.

the bible is a book of FAITH, not FACT ..

"Will the Catholic Church kill gay marriage?"

No, but it won't be for lack of effort on their part.

MERI needs to let RI legislators know that there will be serious consequences if they vote against marriage equality. Playing nice does NOT work with our opposition ... NOM and the Catholic Church. It will be a fight even in liberal and solidly democratic Rhode Island.

Distributing fliers to parishioners. Sounds like political activism. When will we finally get smart and take away tax exempt status from these PACs. I am tired of having to pay for their hate.

While I agree with you, I don't think any politician has the cojones to take on organized religion in this country. It would be political suicide to take on any one church, then they'd have to take them all on.

Catholic clergy are pro-life even if it kills you.
Now they want to kill your chance at a legally recognized relationship.
These are definitely not nice people; even if they do try to make you think they are.

In this they have a lot in common with Daniel/Frank/SteveCA, something he/she would be loath to admit.

Before the Catholic church can destroy Marriage Equality, they will first have to explain why they endorsed it first, and now want to kill it. The following article talks about when the Catholic Church blessed same-sex couples:

Why don't they put this much effort into prosecuting the child-raping priests??

As the great Kathy Griffin says: "The Catholic Church'll fuck you up worse than heroin."

We all know what's wrong, and we all know what it would take to fix things, but as an earlier poster pointed out, our politicians are all cowards when it come to organized religion.

Someday, maybe, the church will be put in it's place, but today is not that day.

Because ecclesiastical law trumps secular law. While they'd never admit it, that's what they feel. They have that in common with Protestant fundamentalists who believe there is no separation of church and state, or, if there is one, religious law again prevails.

Then you have those who try to do an end-run around the church/state issue by declaring gay marriage against Natural Law which, while on the surface is secular, has its origins in religion.

P.S. And if you think this sounds an awful lot like Sharia, you'd be right.

The only thing the Catholic church will ever kill is itself. Fire and brimstone won't fill the pews.

It does seem to work for the Protestants, though.

Maryland's Senate just voted in favor of marriage equality this evening, and the House of Delegates is widely expected to follow suit. Perhaps this will give RI legislators a bit more courage.

I'm a church-going Protestant for more than 50 years, attend my Protestant chucrh each Sunday, and have been to innumerable Protestant churches over the decades.

I have NEVER heard a "fire and brimstone" sermon yet, nor anything like it.

Maybe it's because you were playing with little boys in the choir.
