Beth Edwards decries beating death of Sacramento man, reiterates support for gay marriage

Finally someone has posted this! Satedar was gay, and he and his family and friends were harassed all day while picnicing at Lake Natomas in Sacramento. The Slavs (all of them immigrants) began hurling both racial and homophic epitaphs at he and his family. As the day went on the Russians called for "reinforcements. As witnesses stated, a group of Russian men came over and one threw a punch. The young man fell hitting his head on concrete, and died the next day. Sacramento is home of over 100,000 Slavs. They have regularly demonstrated against gays and lesbians in the city, making it a habit of spitting in the faces of those they deem to be gay or lesbian. In a neighboring county where many of the Slavs live, the Russian mafia has become powerful. They came from a corrupt culture and seem to have brought the corruption with them. People in Sacramento fear there will be violence from these people who, justify and encourage violence. And of course the Slavic community will in no way cooperate with the police. One third of the Russians are considered orthodox.

I am amazed that no one gives a rip about this and they still keep adding to that idiotic "forum infected" thread. Your time would be better spent sending and email to Sacramento D.A. Jan Scully and insisting that this be prosecuted as a hate crime if the perpetrators are caught. Now, that would be gay unity.

Rex, I agree with you perfectly. I didn't know much about the story until I read what you posted here. It is such a sad tragedy to hear that one cannot even keep to themselves and family and enjoy a picnic in the park. Sounds like America needs to redirect some the National Guard to such districts to enforce our laws instead of catching the occasional "immigrant worker" trying to make a better life themselves and their family. People have such misperceptions about real issues and focus on what the media feeds them.

Hateful words only breed violence, I was in the last 2 years gay pride parade and last year this Slavic Church Community almost hit me in the head with a picket sign yelling at me saying Shame on you, they had signs saying re-criminalize sodomy. little 4 and 5 years old kids holding these signs. There style of preaching hate will only breed violence. Yes they have freedom of speech but they dont have the right to shove it down my throat. I will believe in my god who is a loving god not a hateful one.Santendar Singh's death only proves that hateful words preached in a church sooner or later spills over into the community as violence.

So what is it about Russian immigrants instigating this violence lately? Some of the most whacko posters on this board are also Slavic - Straight Story being one. Is there something in that culture that can't tolerate gays for some reason?

They're not even sure they're human, never mind masculine. AND THEY seem to breed thugs better than our WORST ghettos.

The slavs largely come from a very repressed, severely totalitarian culture, where state and church dictate moral concensus. Typically totalitarian regimes foster homophobia, racism, and nationalism. You can expect that it will take several generations for recent immigrants to even come close to accepting and appreciating our diverse and accepting culture.

And imagine the damage that even a third of the 100,000 Slavs could do. I am afraid that if these men are caught that they will get "involentary manslaughter" without the added circumstances of a hate crime. Sacramento is a very conservative town, and this is all being played down. To read the stories go to sacbee.com and search Satendar Singh. It took quite some time before the television and newspapers even used the word "gay". Instead they reported only of the ehtnicity issue. I think they are being "politically correct" and refusing to condemn the Slavs for their actions. Thanks to EVERYONE who will write the D.A. I wish there was a way to make this go national. Thanks

Why do these stories not make national news? How many more will be killed before it rates a "story?"

Thank you for posting this information. The story didn't even make the news in Los Angeles, and this is the first I've heard of it. There have been constant troubles in West Hollywood between Russians and gays, although I know that the city has tried to do CR groups for both communities as well as having a mediation program

Mr. G. That has been attempted here too. The Russians came to one meeting, and there was no flexability in either their understanding or their feelings that violence against homosexuals is justified. The never returned to the second meeting. I will see if I can find more on this. I didn't know they're harassing the residents of West Hollywood.

While i can understand your sentiment, I have to disagree with you. Closing our borders at this point (with that nutjob in the White House stirring up trouble) would only serve to re-double the efforts of illegal aliens. What SHOULD be done is a criminal and psychological inquiry on ALL immigrants according to the parameters set by both of the APA's.

Further when an immigrant, whether legal or illegal is caught in a criminal act, they should be deported, along with their families, and be publicly listed at ALL points of entry, including photographs, and prevented from re-entering this country.

This information should be furnished to ALL neighboring countries and ALL of our dependencies.

Maybe Streetsboro could use a hundred thousand Slavic immigrants. Probably improve civil liberties there, huh, Joe?

Thank you for taking action. It will be the only way to keep them from sweeping this under the rug. I see mention of the killing is now on advocate.com included in Elizabeth Edwards statements.
