Church leaders and pastors: take heed. This is what happens to churches where the leaders abandon Biblical truth for political expedience. PCUSA is going down even now, sure to accelerate if they pass the "gay marriage" change that a few in the denomination are seeking.

I had thought that the UCC was one of the most welcoming of all the various christian denominations. Too bad the former attendees didn't seem to care about their church's position on this matter.

Well, now all those former members who left in a huff of anger at their leader can buy the property and open their own little Westboro North branch church.

So, where's the problem?

More people are accepting that LGBT people deserve EQUAL rights, not "special rights". And a pedophile hideout closed.

I'd call that a win-win.

I'm UCC (and also an ELCA Lutheran) and the UCC IS among the most welcoming denominations of LGBT peolpe in my experience. This story is certainly not typical from my experience.

In 2009 I moved upstate New York. I went "church-shopping" and I attended 14 churches of different denominations looking for a nice church to join.

I visted churches and spoke to the pastor in the following denominations:

The United Church Of Christ (UCC)

The Lutheran Church (ELCA)

The United Methodist Church (UMC)

The Episcopal Church (TEC)

At EVERY ONE of those 14 churches I attended, I spoke to the pastor, told him or her that I was oepnly gay, and that I was looking for a church to join. And at EVERY ONE of those churches, I was told I was welcome to join and that being openly gay was not a problem.

I wound of joining "St. John's and St. Mark's Lutheran Church" in Canajoharie, New York, which was about 15 miles west of me. I remained a member there for 2 years until moving here to Oro Valley, Arizona.

Presently, I attend "Casas Adobes Congregational Church (UCC)" in Casas Adobes, Arizona, about 2 mile south of me.

I have ALWAYS found ALL Protestant churches of any denomination that I have visited or attended regularly to be welcoming of LGBT people.

Separatism has a 500 year history, and even existed in various forms down through the millenia since Judean times. In christendom, it comes from the false notion that the conditions of the contract between the Hebrews and their god apply to anyone who just wants to imagine that they do.

No church that blesses what God condemns can consider themselves Christian.

Funny how christians always refer to the Old Testament when they want to justify their bigotry.. Nothing in the New T. for them to quote; at least not while their leader Jesus Christ lived.. They use the Bible like Hitler used "Mein Kampf" or Stalin "The Comunist Manifesto" with concentration camps and banishment to Siberia as the as the sole result. Won't people ever learn that hate only breeds needless misery, cruelty and chaos?

It's not just that they quote lies...I mean, lines...ok, lies from the old testicles which should annoy people. It's the fact that they quote specific single "verses" from the buybull while ignoring dozens of rules above and below it which apply to themselves.(It's called the buybull because one must buy the bull to believe it.)

Leviticus contains at least a hundred rules on behaviour which the religitards blissfully ignore:

"don't wear mixed fabrics"
"don't eat shellfish"
"don't touch a menstruating woman"
"don't cut your beard"

And so on. Instead, they quote - or rather MISquote - a single line that speaks against prostitution. The claim that it refers to gay people is a fiction based on a mistranslation of a non-existent word, "arsenokoites".

I agree.

Although I rea that recent theological research now indicates that "arsenokoites" translates into modern English as "great big fat girls" !

Daily Horoscope for May 20

Taurus

If a friend has been bugging you recently, you are likely to have a few sharp words with them today. However, least said soonest mended, so don't labour the point or turn them against you. Besides, you have better things to do with your time now, such as taking part in a big gathering of likeminded people or having a long chat with one special person.
