Marriage formalizes the commitment of two people who love each other. Allowing gays to marry does not devalue anyone else's marriage. "Vote for Marriage" really means "vote against rights for homosexuals." It promotes and legitimizes fear and hatred.

Kate you say:

1) "Vote for Marriage" really means "vote against rights for homosexuals".

YES

2) "It promotes and legitimizes fear and hatred".

In a way maybe. Many already hate their lifestyle and fear the diseases that many carry.

The fact that Spruce Pine and McDowell County support the ban against gay marriage does not surprise me. Did you do a survey to get that information, hear it from someone else or simply pull it out of your arse?

No disease could be as pernicious, leprous, and disgusting as your contagion of hatred, xenophobia, and draconian mental darkness.

Mark Twain suggested monsters like you should be caged. I agree.

"[I}n a cage I confined an Irish Catholic from Tipperary, and as soon as he seemed tame I added a Scotch Presbyterian from Aberdeen. Next a Turk from Constantinople; a Greek Christian from Crete; an Armenian; a Methodist from the wilds of Arkansas; a Buddhist from China; a Brahman from Benares. Finally, a Salvation Army Colonel from Wapping. Then I stayed away for two whole days. When I came back to note results, the cage of Higher Animals was all right, but in the other there was but a chaos of gory odds and ends of turbans and fezzes and plaids and bones and flesh--not a specimen left alive. These Reasoning Animals had disagreed on a theological detail and carried the matter to a Higher Court.”

Homo's breed disease. Rights are a privilege and are earned, common decency, strong morals and values will obtain that for you.

Plugging your buddy in the hornpipe and munching you girlfriends fur pie won't get you that around here.

So go back to wherever the he'll you came from.

Pay no attention to poster #5. He's off in the head. He's gone through a bunch of wives, collects domestic violence restraining orders against himself like you'd collect coins, imagines he owns an airplane and flies it daily, did prison time for wife-beating, steals and sells elevator parts, brags to people he's in the Klan, claims he's a genuine Navy SEAL, and he's just finished a 4 LOKO and a six-pack of PBR while crossing Old Fort Mountain headed to Old Fort Sugar Hill Rd. where he lives in a pathetic shack. You have to feel a little sorry for him because he's a bit of a dwarf and while he was in the pen, he was brutally abused. Besides that, skanks like him in the prison population who have abused women or children are especially hated and despised.

Drive up through there on Old Fort Sugar Hill Rd. and you'll see the rather shocking hovel. It has a wall torn completely out which is covered with a tarp.

God, the creator of the universe, is on the side of syupporting civil rights.

He created all Children equal and that doesn't exclude male, female, white, blacks, hispanics, straight, gay., and even transgendered.

I'm a PROUD gay male/man who spends a lot of time in Spruce Pine. It's sickening and disguisting to see some of the bigotry, ignorance, and backwards mentality toward gays and lesbians.

I proudly served my country in the military. I'm educated. I have traveled many places in the world. I'm a fitness and sports addict.

I am confident many of the people who've made bigoted remarks I've seen on this board would NEVER say this to my FACE. Many of whom, are obese, sloppy, and poor excuses of human beings living off the government, on disability, and don't pay taxes.

Many of whom couldn't read understand the bible without a more educated translator, yet attempt to yell a few verses and that makes them an authority.

Shame on you bigoted straight people. You people need to fix your own lives before passing judgement on others.

The worlds has changed and it's time for even the most down trodden of Mitchell Country who are bigoted change too.

I deserve to marry my eventual life partner in North Carolina. He will be a man like myself.

It's inevitable this will pass. Praying the gay away has, isn't, and will NEVER worked.

Onward and upward.

If two lizards of the same sex marry, or if a bear marries a hippopotamus, it won't affect my marriage in the least.

You are very incorrect, Mr. God is on my side!!! Just because we have a difference in opinion, does not indicate that we are bigots! We have strong beliefs and we stand up for what we believe, just as you are doing! Homosexuality, is a stinch to God's nostrils as are other men or womens sinful ways! For many, many years, this area has been known as the Bible Belt and just because you are pitching a fit about the possibility of having this amendment voted in, doesn't mean we are backing down! Why don't you pick up your bad self, along with your significant other and move to a state that has already approved the same sex marriage rights? We would rather not have you in our state and I for sure wouldn't want you defending my country! How do you like that Bigot statement? Apples for Apples!!!

The Bible says marriage is between one man and one woman. If you are gay, then I dont think God is on your side. Christian means Christ Like. IMO, if someone is gay, they are not christian. But we could go on and on about right and wrong.

It's odd how your god makes people gay, and animals too, and then tells gay people they can't marry each other.

Of course, your god is a superstition founded on ancient pamphlets cobbled up to control fearful people like yourself.

And the god of most christians is Mammon.

The reason for the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment is to keep your wacky god out of the state and federal government and their laws.

Amendment one states that marriage between one man and one women shall be the only legal union recognized by the state of North Carolina. Some argue that this will not only prevent homosexuals from receiving couples benefits, but could potentially take benefits away from heterosexual couples that live together and receive the benefits that married people do. If you are going to support amendment one based on your religious convictions, then you have to remember that when Jesus spoke to the women at the well who was guilty of adultery, he told her to go and sin no more. If you oppose gay marriage, then you also have to oppose adulterous relationships. Let me also say that I do not hate anyone. I know and have worked with people that are gay. No one has ever given me a reason to hate them nor fear them, so you cannot classify me as "homophobic", as that would imply that I have a fear of them. However, I cannot support their lifestyle based on my on personal convictions. I also do not support a lifestyle in which a man and woman live together as man and wife and are not married. So, therefore, I support amendment one, not because I hate anyone, but simply because I agree with the position.

Birds and bees fall outta the sky and all other weird shit goin on in the world.

About a year or so ago I was at a local business when two men got out of a car. At first, I did not know the person getting out of the passenger seat was a man and actually was somewhat dressed up like a women and had a bonnet on, no bs! He then went to the back seat of the car and a child got out of the car and the man said “come with mommy”. The man took his bonnet off and they proceded to go into the local business. Does anyone in their right mind think this is how our future should be raised because this is going on right under our nose and before our very eyes. What on earth has gone wrong with this country?
I guess the end of days are really here.

The women, as any Indian knows, are the "real receptacles" of power. But there is a problem here. If women choose to abrogate this gift and become as men, then I see little hope. It is the women of the world who must stand up and say,"Enough is enough! We will no longer support your destruction, your war, and your violence toward life. We will no longer give our sons as pawns in your games of power and destruction, which benefit the few and harm the many while your lies make them believe that they are being served. We are the daughters of Earth, and we will be heard!"

OK then; we'll return the favor: We'll vote against *your* rights. We want heteros to provide proof of pregnancy by first-cousin to buy a marriage license; and divorce punishable by gas chamber on TV just before the lottery drawing

We gay folks can't go wrong following GOD's step-by-step wedding instructions. Here's what we do (warning: juicy):
.
++++++++++
Step 1: The souls of two people become knit as one
.
++++++++++
1 Samuel 18:1> And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking unto Saul, that the soul of Jonathan was knit with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.
++++++++++
.
Step 2: We make a covenant with God as our witness
.
++++++++++
1 Samuel 18:3> Then Jonathan and David made a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. 18:4> And Jonathan stripped himself of the robe that was upon him, and gave it to David, and his garments, even to his sword, and to his bow, and to his girdle.
++++++++++
.
Step 3: We swap seed to consummate our marriage
.
++++++++++
1 Samuel 20:41> And as soon as the lad was gone, David arose out of a place toward the south, and fell on his face to the ground, and bowed himself three times: and they kissed one another, and wept one with another, until David exceeded. 20:42> And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace, forasmuch as we have sworn both of us in the name of the LORD, saying, The LORD be between me and thee, and between my seed and thy seed for ever. And he arose and departed: and Jonathan went into the city.
++++++++++
.
Step 4: Our marriage is permanent until, by death, we are parted
.
++++++++++
2 Samuel 1:25> How are the mighty fallen in the midst of the battle! O Jonathan, thou wast slain in thine high places. 1:26> I am distressed for thee, my brother Jonathan: very pleasant hast thou been unto me: thy love to me was wonderful, passing the love of women.
++++++++++

The biggest same-sex marriage in Thee Holy Bible is in 1 Kings 11:3 where we read about Solomon's 700 wives and 300 concubines. One old geezer and 1000 women all married to each other is as gay as it gets. Polygamous too!
