Gibbons Vetoes Nevada Domestic Partnerships

Full story: www.boxturtlebulletin.com

As expected Governor Jim Gibbons has vetoed the Domestic Partnership bill passed by the legislature. (Mercury News):

Gibbons said in a statement released during the Memorial Day holiday that Senate Bill 283 conflicts with a state constitutional amendment approved by Nevada voters in 2002 supporting marriage between a man and a woman.

“Only the voters should have the right to undo or amend constitutional mandates,” he said.

First they say civil unions are just a ruse for granting marriage to GLBT couples. Then they try to tell us that marriage itself is sacred and civil unions are good enough for those people. Over the long-term, it's rather amusing to watch them dissemble. But in the short term, they cause much damage.

well I guess Vegas doesn't need my money then....fine, I won't be going to that state now either. I'll spend my $2,000.00 vacation budget somewhere else.

Harrah's Casinos are pushing for a veto override over concerns about this.(It must be noted that Las Vegas is not Nevada: Clark County is much, much more gay-friendly then the rest of Nevada, which is a very conservative State.)

When will we react? Las Vegas is IN Nevada. Let them change this, till then there are other places to gamble. We need to show support to those who show support to us. The people of Nevada elected the hypocrite cheating Gibbons. They also voted the mentioned amendment. If they want GLBT money, make some changes!

What I noticed about this story was that while Gibbon's was proud to trumpet his signing of the bill which extended anti-discrimination protections on Friday, he waited until late in the day of a holiday to announce that he was going to be the first to violate the spirit of it, by vetoing the limited protections that the domestic partnership bill offered. Hopefully, the legislature will be able to round up the two votes in each chamber that they will need to override this idiotic decision....

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Taurus

Get involved in financial transactions at your peril under today's Lunar Eclipse, because certain people will use them as a stick to beat you with. For instance, if you ask someone to lend you money they'll either make you feel guilty about it or dredge up all sorts of past instances when their trust was betrayed. You would also be well advised to avoid any show of possessiveness or jealousy, even if you feel it, unless you truly don't care about the disastrous outcome.
