To save money, why don't they get their training at the MSHA facility in Beckley, WV? They have an elaborate set up for fire fighting and training.

Crap like this is the reason the country is going broke. Federal funds(free money) will be coupled with county funds (more free money) to build a complex to benefit a select few. Question is where is the money for utilities and upkeep going to come from? The county (more free money)? Some of the taxpayers of Tazewell Co. better wake up and question these type of expenditures or the county will end up on the hook. That means the taxpayers end up on the hook. Times have been pretty lean around here and the rest of the country. But you wouldn't know it by the requests some people are making on the taxpayers. This boondoogle needs to be stopped in it's tracks. At a time when the school system is in the red and had to cut jobs it is unbelieveable that people would be so selfish as to request these funds. And the federal goverment are idiots for giving them almost a half a million of taxpayer money to get this crap started. Any member of the Board of Supervisors who supports this should be remembered next election for supporting this and voted out of office.

I'm with you! I would much rather see my hard earned federal tax dollars go to put more chocolate coated strawberries down Nancy Pelosi's throat or put fuel in Air Force one so Dumbama can get another vacation! How dare them use our tax dollars locally!!!! They should all be fired!

Get a grip dude. You are a drama queen

The Town of Tazewell had this grant for over $400,000 dollars a few years ago and the county wouldnt help then. The Town manager and council for Tazewell also rejected to help. The Grant money is already there.

Also This grant is a grant that is given back in parts meaning that for example the locality spends 1/4 and then the government pays that back to the locality. Then the next phase is done and it is paid back. The problem is the localities have to put up the money first to do each phase of the project then the govt will give it back after an inspection of each phase.

What should Richlands be spending their money on ?

And

When didn't they respond to an emergency "on time" ?

and

What are the "95% of the things they do" ?

Put up or shut up

FROM WHAT I HEAR THE TOWN COUNCIL DRUG THEIR FEET ON VOTING ON THIS ISSUE WHICH WAS SUPPOSE TO COST $400,000. THE COUCIL WAITED UNTIL THE LAST MINUTE AND WAS PUSHED TO A VOTE ON THE TRAINING FACILITY.
NOT ALL TOWN COUNCIL PEOPLE WERE THERE TO VOTE. IT DID PASS BY A NARROW MARGIN. NOW THAT THE COUNCIL HAS DRUG THEIR FEET THE TRAINING FALILITY WILL COST $542,000 NOT INCLUDING UP KEEP, WATER SEWER AND ROAD WORK ON LAND THAT WAS DONATED TO THE TOWN TO BE USED AS RECREATION ONLY. THE TOWN DOES NOT HAVE A QUALIFIED FIRE CHEIF SO I'VE HEARD.
ALL GRANTS ARE STILL TAXPAYERS MONEY THE LAST I HEARD. HOW MANY TRIPS COULD BE MADE TO ANOTHER COUNTY FOR THE TRAINING FOR A HALF A MILLION DOLLARS? THIS WAS NOT FULLY THOUGHT THROUGH. I FEEL THIS WAS A BAD DECISION. HOW WILL THIS HELP THE TOWN OF RICHLANDS?

JOHN YOU ARE THE ONE THAT IS IGNORANT. YOU NEED TO ATTEND A TOWN COUNCIL MEETING SOMETIME.
John

I attend them every chance I get to. If you knew anything then you would know that the new burn building will create more taxes for the town, i.e. food, maybe gas, and lodging for the claypool hill area. ALso, for the remarks about the fire chief, 36 years of service to the town of richlands fire department speaks for itself if you ask me.

WELL JOHN ALL I CAN SAY IS YOU NEED TO ATTEND MORE MEETINGS. HOW DOES THE BURN BUILDING HELP THE TAX BASE IN THE TOWN OF RICHLANDS NOT CLAYPOOL HILL? IF THE FIRE CHIEF STARTED 36 YEARS AGO HE MUST HAVE STARTED WHEN HE WAS ABOUT 15. THE ISSUE IS I THINK THE BURN BUILDING WAS A WASTE OF TAX PAYERS MONEY BECAUSE YOU COULD SEND SEVERAL MEN TO WISE FOR TRANING FOR MANY YEARS FOR HALF A MILLION DOLLARS.

He was 16 because we started together but you made one of my points without even having to say anything. Send the guys to wise all the time is why the building is being built in Tazewell co in the first place, this building is not only going to benefit the town of Richlands, I agree....but all communities closer to Richlands rather than wise to cut down on that travel time and fuel...I can see there is no reasoning with you on any matter related to this so this is my last post on the topic. It's a done deal anyway so it doesn't matter what either of us think.

First and foremost, you should learn to use the "Shift" button instead of typing in all caps, it makes you appear to be as unknowing and aggravating as you are in public, Joe.

Secondly, the time it took for the council to make the vote for the project had zero to do with the cost. Zero.

Third, and I close, I hope you get elected, so you can see just how easy it is to sit in the audience and criticize. I have been in those people's seat, and they do not have an easy job.

The money comes from a federal grant that is for the burn building. The town has nothing to do with it. That money is not the towns. The town wouldn't even have the money if we didn't want a burn building

Who pays for the insurance that will be carried on this building.

Who will be paying for the upkeep after five years.
