Chuck, a couple of clarifications. The WBFD had 2 paid FF on 7/24. Not just drivers but fully certified interior firefighters. Part of Woody's burned down, but the inial call did not come through as a fire, because if it did, RFD would have been there a lot sooner, as they are already paid to respond to structural fires. In any case, 2 WBFD trucks with volunteers were already there, along with Henrietta as RFD arrived. Since a water main failed, it was Henrietta that laid 1000' ft of hose to another hydrant and main. Extra trucks were not needed. More water was. And, the town has known of water main problems in that area for years, but chooses to not make it a priority.
There are at least 18 interior certified volunteers and add that to the paid staff, you get another 18. Numbers continue to grow, but Brighton chooses to downplay that fact,, because obviously a deal has been struck behind closed doors. Add that to the paid response from RFD for structural fires, and nearby mutual aid for Henrieeta, we are incredibly well covered. Plain and simple, the town ignores or does not comprehend these facts, nor do they have the expertise in fire protection. A West Brighton fire district, run by knowledgeable fire commissioners is needed. The new agreement with RFD simply spreads RFD staff and equipmnent thinner over a larger area.
