Did Scientology play a role in Australian suicide?

Full story: The First Post

Scientologists are used to making the headlines in America, where only this month there has been a row over a TV interview and a high-profile defection by the Oscar-winning Crash director Paul Haggis. But the controversial sect now has problems on the other side of the world, in Australia. Questions are being asked about the role of local Scientologists in the suicide of Edward McBride, a Northern Ireland-born soldier who killed himself in Brisbane in 2007.

Well, let's see, 19 calls or texts in the 48 hours prior to his death.

Police had listened to them, and told the inquest they included "forceful" demands for Mr McBride to urgently attend the church to complete his spiritual training, as well as a warning US-based Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard "would not approve".

"You are putting another person's job at risk through your actions," was one account.

"It is not kosher for you to be out of contact with me. You really should come in for an audit."

And: "This is not good enough. You need to call me. You are going to get me into a lot of trouble. You need to come in now, we need to get this sorted out."

And isn't it interesting that $cientology is reluctant to release info in this case when they couldn't release 'confidential' info on Amy Scobee, Mike Rinder et al. quick enough?

Yup. Another death linked with scientology. There's a lot of suicide and death around this organisation.

I find it very curious also how their efficiency in handing out changes according to situation.

What are you hiding, Slappy Miscavige?
