The Grant Parish Sheriffs Department needs more drug arrests. If you notice all the other surrounding parishes are doing some major drug busts. We have a major drug problem in Grant Parish. But the criminals are being protected. Several of the deputies are not doing their job. A few certain deputies are sitting on the clock; they are not patrolling; they are not making stops; they are harboring known drug dealers; they are cruising around in parish units buring parish fuel for personal use. You ever seen a Grant Parish unit out of the parish on personal runs? That's right; its called perks of the job. Many of these perks include keeping drug seizure money and reporting only a portion of the findings. Its who you are. Doesnt matter if you deal drugs or not, it depends on your last name. Sheriff Welch needs to clean house! Why keep these officers on the payroll, if they are not doing their jobs. Most officers work at least 2 jobs and are working the 2nd job while on the clock. These guys are supposed to be community minded, civic leaders who set good examples and promote positive morale as well as be role models for youth. That is what a police officer is supposed to be. What we have for officers in Grant Parish are officers who stop young girls to get their phone number. If they get a phone number, then they wont write them a ticket. If no phone number is handed out, then a ticket gets written. Then you have the alcoholic investigations officers who sleeps with all the dispatchers. Ok you have the K9 unit deputy who abandoned his own child and bailed on child support. Then you have the warden having affairs with women in the civil department. Then you have the night sergeant engaged in internet pornography on department computers. You have officers who swap up with their wives. Also you have the brawls and the list goes on and on. Why are these deputies allowed to protect and serve??

Wow, pwla08...sounds like the whole department is bad. Maybe we should just get rid of all of them and police it ourselves?? You dumb ass. Bet you are not saying all that when they respond to save you or your kids. And as for the K9 deputy...I have never met a more dedicated officer. He is also one of the most honest people I have ever met. He didn't abandon his child and he pays not only the child support but then some. He tries to be part of the child's life but the mother is psychotic!!!! She got pregnant on purpose to try to keep him with her. Since it didn't work, she lies and does everything in her power to make him miserable and look bad. Or maybe you already know this......

Nobody said the whole department was bad! There are some damn good officers out there who do their job with honesty and integrity. These men will be there when you need them for back up too. Sheriff has to be proud of them. And you never have to wonder if their head is on straight. They love their jobs and would never risk it. Didnt notice you saying anything about drug busts. Lets get back to the point or you just wanna gossip and slander? Seems as if you missed the whole point. Wow wonder who you are!! I know the officer in question as well as the "psychotic girl." Last time I checked it takes 2 to get pregnant. And just checking my facts? Werent they living together?? Dont know what happened behind closed doors but I do know a real man when I see one. You sure do have alot of interests in the well being of the child there.

Sounds as if pwla08 has changed their tune, because they are the one that started all this crap in the first place. Now they want to talk about the drug busts when at first they wanted to bash the k9 officer. Why don't you tell us the whole point of your ignorance.

I agree. pwla08 started the whole beginning of the comment talking about how bad so many in the department are. Then changes his or HER mind in the next one. Make up ur mind!! And don't have to talk about the drug busts. They speak for themselves...they are public record so feel free to research it. And speaking of the k-9 officer...he won a trip to Colorodo 2 yrs ago and got published in a magazine for a couple of drug busts he made. Oh..and several awards. And for the record, you got personal first by bringing up certain persons in your comment...you didn't say the names but its a small community and everyone knows who you are talking about. And yes it takes two to get pregnant, but does that apply if the man thinks the woman is taking birth control and on the "up and up"?...but she really isn't and knows he doesn't want to be together anymore. Yeah they were living together...she moved herself in after 3 months of dating.

The whole grant parish court system is screwed up. Theres an entire neighborhood in colfax that they KNOW contains drug dealers, users and anything else you can name, but yet only few are taken care of.. the "regulars" arent bothered. Also, when a deputy is called by an 8 month pregnant lady and asked to do something about a literally psycho man who is stalking her entire family and he says " ok we will go try to find him and scare him by telling him that the CIA is watching him from a satellite and sees every move he makes" what in the world does that tell you about grant parish. When they do make drug busts, they go to peoples houses WITHOUT the deputy with the warrant being there yet and take what they please because they like it. and like someone said above, they keep most of the drug bust money that they find. This isnt from hear-say, my comment is from personal experience. Hows that for grant parish.

The town of Colfax is patrolled by the Colfax Police Department and backed up by the GPSO. You can't have it both ways.

Sounds like the only way to fix this is to due a couple of things. First the only thing to get the deputies moving is to get a fresh sheriff in office. We know how baxter welch runs things and we definitely know how pop hataway works don't want him back. Sounds like we need fresh strict rules. Like howell addison as sheriff or steve mccain for sheriff. Need someone who will clean house and actually enforce discipline. Next need to give the sheriffs office a higher budget to get real deputies with. We see more units that belong to other departments living in grant than our own deputies.

i lived in montgomery for 20 years.Let me say that grant parish does a wonderfull job in the law enforcement agency.Except for a certain cop out of montgomery who is shady.Grant parish is one of the safest places to live most deaths from this parish are accident related.Grant parish deputy have a lot of ground to cover, back roads are every where.Detectives in colfax are not as stupid as you think.as far as officers getting phone numbers, how stupid are you everyone knoes everyone, and are always in others business.you think you have it bad you need to come to a bigger city and see how you are rewarded with their service. i can tell you things are worse. You should be proud to have the laid back atmosphere in grant parish
