What's wrong with death penalty?

Too many innocent people being sent to death row, for one thing.

Once upon a time, I was a firm believer in the death penalty. Then over the course of time, I've discovered how flawed the justice system is. Too often law enforcement frames people for some crime because they are under pressure to solve the crime. So they will do ANYTHING which involves perjury, falsification of evidence, influencing witnesses, etc, etc. in order to convict somebody.

How do I know? Because the dozens and dozens of people that have been exonerated from DNA evidence. Not one or two or a dozen, but DOZENS which means law enforcement is anxious to commit crimes just so they can get a conviction.

So dozens have been exonerated and many, MANY more would be too, IF the evidence hadn't been destroyed or if they had DNA evidence back in the day.

Whats the penalty for framing an accused person? There isn't one. Law enforcement is exempt from prosecution.

Nothing’s wrong with the death penalty. The bigger question is why are all the people on death row still alive?

Well, if you are convicted of murder, the facts, the victims all pointing at you. Then there is no doubt that you are the killer or killers involved. Instead of biding your time in prison, free everything, thanks to the taxpayers AND the victim's family taxes. Yes, they are supporting your time there, what maybe five to ten years? A firing squad should be awarded the privilege to render your punishment by death, upon the first week of conviction. The injection is humane, yes. But did they give their victim or victim's any choice on how to die? They committed a horrible deed, they should fear death in the same manner. America is too lenient with their judging laws, they should take note how other countries handle their punishments. But then again, how many lawyers would be out of business with re-trials and plea bargaining? Sure is a cat and mouse game, who is the big chesse now?

I don't agree with the death penalty for the simple reason that as long as it is around there is always the risk of an innocent man or woman being killed. In my mind it's a far worse punishment to serve out the rest of your life in a cell then to be put down. If the killer is a risk of his/her fellow prison cell mates and society then maybe I could see why you need to execute them. But I just don't find the risk of killing one innocent life in order to put the public's conscience at ease that dozens of monsters are not going to be able to murder again.

The death penalty to be carried out requires someone to perform the same crime that the accused killer is facing - performing state sactioned murder. Also, as previous comments have been made, two many innocent people are either facing the death penalty or actually been put to death. There are instances where the actually killer escaped the penalty and an accomplice was put to death. If pone is to be put to death then let all be put to death and not let the first who "sings" excape the penalty. To me morally and my religious beliefs the death penalty is wrong because it is just state supported murder.

Of course there are always going to be plenty of people so steeped in their prejudices that they believe innocent people should die simply because they were accused and framed.

I think yernogood should be hung by his own petard. I hope he has a neighbor accuse him of something which of course will mean he's guilty. I wonder if he will appreciate the irony?

There are a minority of people that have been sent to death row and that is one problem but only one problem.

There are many reasons against the death penalty.

The first one is just one innocent person being sent to death row and other things people don't even think about such as the cost to taxpayers. If a person is found guilty of murder and sent to death row, that person could be in prison for many years before the sentence is carried out and each time it gets close, millions are spent in legal fees that taxpayers must pay.

Besides all that, the death penalty is murder and breaks the Ten Commandments and even if you are putting Church and State aside, it is still murder and it brings someone new down to the level of another murder even if the person doesn't know for sure if he pushed the right button or not. He or she has to live with that not knowing if he or she killed someone and murder is just wrong either way.

The way to deal with people that are guilty is prison but not like we have it now. First of all, prisons go against the USSC. Cruel and unusual punishment takes place there such as murder and rape.

Fun things for the strong ones happen such as weight lifting, cable TV and even Internet and getting to go to college FOR FREE!

It would cost taxpayers much less, be real punishment without being cruel if each prisoner had a tiny cell by himself without fear of harm or able to harm others, one book of choice, two inexpensive meals a day, no TV, Internet, weight lifting or anything else other than a choice to walk inside his cell for exercise and only go out once a week for a shower. This would be harsh but not cruel or unusual punishment. It would be a deterrent of future crimes and cost taxpayers more than 50% less than we pay now. This should be the case for any kind of crime for however long the time.

These prisoners are eating better than Jesus ever ate!

It is the duty of every American to Protect and Defend their rights and life. If someone is intent on murder then they are intent on stripping you of all your rights, liberty and life. So in a nutshell you have the right to use deadly force against anyone who attempts to murder you. The law protects those defending themselves providing they acted within the law.
The death penalty is an extension of the right an individual has to save his/her own life, etc. The death penalty amounts to what a deceased individual or the absence of a police officer was unable to do during the course of a violent crime. In other words, if you commit murder you are going to die one way or another…capice?

Taking your idea to the next step, they could sell lottery tickets in hopes of winning a chance to be on the firing squad. I'd buy one, and the State could recoup some of it's money lost from having to feed these swine up untill the big event
