The 188-mile DesertXpress project would benefit from low land costs -- it would hug Interstate 15 almost all of the way, using government-owned right-of-way. An artist's rendering of the DesertXpress, a proposed $6.5 billion high-speed train that would go from Las Vegas to Victorville, Calif.
