This is good news. We can't afford to spend untold billions of taxpayer money on another failure like Amtrak. If this train is such a great idea let the private sector finance it.

Hay if airports are such a great idea let the private sector run them. Hay if highways are such a great idea let the private sector run them. Maybe we should stop all the electric subsidies also. We can't afford to spend untold billions of taxpayer money on more failures like airports, highways and electric.

Let's start with Welfare programs and then we can start on green waste and money laundering.

Other places like Europe and China will continue to be innovative, forward thinking in their ideas for public transport. American will not.

High speed rail will never be built in California as we look forward to bigger roads, more gas guzzling, impacted car-clogged freeways and small uncreative backward minds.

This is one of the reasons why we're falling behind the Chinese. They have high-speed rail...the Japanese and French have high-speed rail....this country continues to rely on cars and imports half its oil at great economic and political cost.

Who's the dumb country here? Us.

The usual irrelevant, off-topic twaddle from you.

Cain's the one motivated by financial gain, incidentally. NO one but Righties take him seriously as a candidate, he's clearly playing to the peanut gallery, grabbing his 15 minutes of fame as a candidate, and planning to 'retire' to book-writing and Faux News commentator status.

He will never be President, or even be his party's nominee. Put MONEY on it.

The private sector drove us and the world into our deepest recession since the Great Depression. They're not qualified, or able, to make intelligent, forward-looking decisions.

Government needs to step up and do this. But with reTHUGlicans exercising a veto through their House Majority, it won't happen. They WANT America to fail.

In 2008, the project was to be completed by 2020 at a cost of $45B. Now, it won't be completed until 2034 at a cost of $100B. Costs and time to develop have doubled in 3 years!

This is not a project that I want to subsidize. If Californians want this high-speed rail so bad, let them pay for it.

This s part of a train to nowhere....here in Fla. we sent them packing..For the explosive costs were to fall on the local tax payers....

In Nevada, the PET PROJECT of Harry Reid...a train from the Slums of LA to the Casinos of Vegas....for further Sheep to the Slaughter house!

No jobs here!...like solyandra, its CRONYISM by OBAMA...All BULL SHIT!....

To have High Speed Trains,America would have to Rip up all the Rails....They are OLD,WORN OUT,over 100 yrs old...AMTRACKS average speed these tracks are like a TURTLE!...

For much of the 20th century, rail track used softwood timber ties and jointed rails, and considerable extents of this track type remains on secondary and tertiary routes. The rails were typically of flat bottom section fastened to the ties with dogspikes through a flat tieplate in North America and Australia, and typically of bullhead section carried in cast iron chairs in British and Irish practice.

Jointed rails were used, at first because the technology did not offer any alternative. However the intrinsic weakness in resisting vertical loading results in the ballast support becoming depressed and a heavy maintenance workload is imposed to prevent unacceptable geometrical defects at the joints. The joints also required to be lubricated, and wear at the fishplate (joint bar) mating surfaces needed to be rectified by shimming. For this reason jointed track is not financially appropriate for heavily operated railroads.

AMERICA needs Shovel ready Jobs with infrastructure...not Election BULL SHIT,but real jobs!...powered by cheaper energy!..Of Which This HUSSEIN INCOMPETENT has not a CLUE!
