Professional athletes should make $100,000 a year each. It should be capped. Put the rest of the money into education grants, salaries for teachers, etc. That is OK, China is pulling away from us at lightspeed. They have more honor students than we HAVE students. While you idiots chase free money, vote monsters like Obama into office, get and stay drunk and only worry about Ravens Football, the world will be falling down around you. Will you even notice it happening? Probably not, because IT IS HAPPENING NOW! Now, get back to Oprah, McDonalds Fastfood and trying to get things for nothing.

This is ludacris! With our economy who does not want jobs to come into the area? The select few of those who are in the way of this project need to talk their walkers and canes and go home!!! Abingdon misses out on a great deal of things because of greed!!! These people are brainwashed by the money they have in the bank, and by those who they befriend in the town. I say give us a choice of something other than Kmart, Magic mart and Roses.
The word I think you want is "ludicrous". Ludacris is rapper (musician) born in 1977.

Did you use a dictionary to look it up, or did you use the world wide web? I assume you didn't use the former. I can't imagine Webster knowing anything about a rapper from the 70's.

Hah! Ya caught me - I DID use the web (it was so close at hand), although I do have a pretty huge dictionary (for school) and it has "ludicrous" in it.

So let's hope this entry between us just causes some laughter for the absurdity of it! Happy Friday!

So what is the real reason that those who don't want a Wal-mart or any other competition for the lame retail outlets in this town? Second is what is the animosity towards Grundy's building a Wal-mart, have anyone here even been to what was and is Grundy? I worked in Buchanan County for years, and I can tell you that with the only department store in the area being a Magic Mart, it's about time they got something down there, instead of having to travel an hour or more each way to actually be able to shop a competitor's store. I say put a Wal-mart outside Abingdon's town limits, and tell Abingdon to take a walk.

DO the dipsticks that run the town noot realize that they are losing tax dollars to the county? Go look at the Wal-Mart at exit 7. MOST of the cars there have county stickers from somewhere other than Bristol and Washington County. Many of the shoppers from Johnson County, the lower end of Smyth County, and the Abingdon side of Russell County would most likely use the Wal-Mart in Abingdon, not to mention eating at the restaurants, etc....

Wal-Mart has an aggressive growth strategy planned for the next two years. I'll be very surprised if K-Mart and/or Magic Mart make it through this next round. The you'll pay mom and pop through the nose or drive to Bristol. Some "mom and pops" care about their communities and contribute back, others care only about their pocket book. Wal-Mart is one of the largest corporate givers in the world (and they can well afford to be, I agree).

Bottom line is this: Like it or not Wal-Mart is here to stay. They have one of the best business plans ever developed. They manage to turn their product over so quickly that most of the time they have made their profit before they ever get the bill from the supplier. And NOBODY can compete with them in the longterm, not when Wal-Mart can set their own price for the goods they buy and then sell to us.

I dont believe that the hype about Walmart hurting small business. Take a look around. There are Walmarts in virtually every city and town in the area and Abingdon is the only locality that seems to have a problem with it. I bet that if you gave the residents of Lebanon or Richlands the choice of keeping Walmart in town or booting them out, they would vote overwhelmingly to keep them. I personally dont know of any mom and pop stores that i shop at that offer any of the services that a Walmart offers. That being the case i dont see how they would be in competition.

I noticed that they are building a Lowes out at exit 19, and I don't hear you anti-wally worlders screaming about that. I have news for you, a Wally World isn't far behind, and personally I don't mind a bit, I'm getting tired of the only department stores in this town being an over priced and junky K'mart, a bit better but not by much Magic Mart, and a better left for dead Roses.

I don't shop at the over priced local merchants anyway, because they usually try to appeal to the more well to do in this town, and shun the lesser income individuals. If I honestly thought that some of these places actually were interested in my business I would frequent their establishments; however, as I can't afford their wares then I guess I'm stuck with Wally World or Target.

The true individual establishments in this town that still catered to the little man died out long ago, most likely when the shopping centers went in, and not a peep was heard. Now all that is left are the specialty shops, and you can keep them up yourselves anti-Wal-marters. Remember only you can keep overpriced exclusive specialty shops in business, I travel to exit 7 just to avoid them.
