Where is the opinion? That a spill happened? That the corporation got away almost scott free?(to Exxon,$500 mil must be chicken feed)

It's a news article about an expression of an opinion. Admittedly it is a fine line but it isn't much different than a press release from any organization about any particular activity which usually falls under the 'news' umbrella.

Again, what's the opinion being expressed?

Kinda quiet in here, as the right-wingers take a moment to look over their shoulder.

The Founding Fathers often warned about unprecedented accumulation of wealth that could threaten democracy, especially in the debates preceding the nation's first inheritance taxes. They reacted strongly against the royalty of their era, the moat is merely replaced by a corporate veil.

If the left and right come together to oppose corporate tyranny, it will fall.

If the public option in health care is any indication, don't hold your breath hoping Obama will enact laws to balance the pending Supreme court decision on this.

Well, call it "news" or "community happenings", its about past and upcoming local events. Since the speaker isn't local, it seems like news to me.

I don't think its an opinion that serious damage was caused by the oil spill, its a fact. So it doesn't require some kind of contrasting "balance".

If you can't figure out that it's news, don't worry about it. Some corporation will decide what is news...the gatekeepers. They decide what we read, what's newsworthy. For example, what is not in the newspaper has been decided by someone else that it is not newsworthy, won't get enough circulation and thus, no advertising dollars to contribute to the candidates of the newspapers choice. Get it. The newspapers choice (kind of like the corporation in the NEWS article). But don't worry about this news, it's just my opinion.

Oh c'mon Domino 21! Arent you simply angry that there was no tie-in to Arcata pot growing 'hippie-liberals', and no reefer was found in the ship's Captains possession?

But seriously, isnt it sad that one who spends her
life studying the environment, and wants to keep it safer, is still tagged 'activist'?

Its a novel endeavour shes embarked upon, but it seems to me there is some pending litigation (civil suit) still going on and shes determined to receive a dividend from the settlement. Environmental activism at its best.

The opinion expressed is that corporations do not have any rights under the Constitution to be treated as private individuals. Even when the Supreme Court rules on such things they are called 'opinions'. It's all about the interpretation of a document that makes no direct reference to corporate personhood, as such, it's all opinion.

Note: I didn't say I disagreed with the person presenting the movie or that the Valdez disaster was an environmental atrocity. I have boycotted Exxon (and everything they've bought since) ever since the spill and will continue to for the foreseeable future because it was so stupid for them not to have foreseen the risk and to continue to fight the cleanup and settlement even while they were make billions of profit in a matter of weeks. But that's just me, voting with my own wallet.

Some Friend of the Court needs to find a way to introduce George Soros and ACORN into the battle. Sonce the argument seems to be about corporate rights, it doesn't seem likely. ACORN is getting our taxes again, in plenty of time to run the Census. The battle over asking for citizenship on the census was settle quickly by the Activist Congress. The Mexican pot growers in Humboldt County are safe.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Scorpio

Your thoughts turn to the past today, putting you in a nostalgic mood. You're awash with sentimental tears as you dwell on days gone by or gaze at photos of people you'll never see again. However, try not to let this mood of reminiscence turn into a tendency to feel sorry for yourself and therefore to demand special treatment from others.
