I read about that in my research. Vonnegut recalled "utter destruction" and "carnage unfathomable". The Germans made him and the other POWs gather the bodies for mass burial.

Yes, it must have been awful. Didn't the slaughterhouse itself help save the POW's from the fires??

In earlier eras, people were more captured as slaves than killed. Like in the Old Testament. Nowadays, killing innocent civilians is a major part of every war going on today, regardless of who's involved. Automatic weapons are everywhere. We can't unring the bell. The killing of innocents in any war is inevitable. Getting rid of the evil that kills innocents is what peaceful nations must do.

However, when peaceful nations deliberately go out of their way to kill thousands of innocents so horrifically, it changes the face of things. It has changed the face of things for me dramatically.
