2042??

You think is working hard???

We had one just 12 years ago - before Bush & the Republicans voted yes to take us off that path & then left office with the worse economic conditions in 80 years.

Who was there?? Paul Ryan.

Did he vote yes to take us off that path? Dd he vote yes to record earmarks? Did he vote yes for unfunded medicare expansion?

How can Romney push for better spending control when his VP was there voting yes under Bush?

Ryan wants to privatize Social Security!

Ryan was a bad pick for VP. He opens the door to ads proving Romney is just another rich guy looking to government to make him richer.

Romney gave Obama & the Democrats a huge gift....again.

With praise for Ryan budget, Republicans risk falling into a political trap

The Ryan plan calls for reducing individual income tax rates to 10 percent and 25 percent from the current top rate of 35 percent and he also reduces the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 25 percent.

The Wisconsin Republican claims his budget offsets the tax dollars lost to the tax cuts for upper-income Americans by eliminating tax loopholes, tax shelters and many tax deductions estimated at an incredible $4.6 trillion over 10 years. But while Ryan specifies the cuts in tax rates, he never identifies the giant tax breaks he wants to kill.

And that one false move opens the door for President Obama’s reelection campaign to paint Romney as secretly protecting the rich and a man who is “not in touch with the lives of ordinary Americans and doesn’t really care about the struggles they are facing …”

In choosing Ryan I think we have the first time in US history that the opponent in a presidential election picked the other guy's VP for him.

Ryan firms up the Right. Too bad that the Center and the Left are still allowed to vote (some parts of the country excepted!)

Obamacare does not cut Medicare benefits but saves money through changes in how medicare pays for services from per item to results oriented.

Ryan's plan saves money by making seniors pay more.

Obama's plan guarantees your coverage. Ryan gives you a voucher & turns your out on your own & hopes its enough to get the coverage you need.

So much for the referendum

By Steve Benen - Sat Aug 11, 2012 8:31 AM EDT

As of this morning, Romney's strategy has been thrown out the window. Paul Ryan wrote a right-wing budget plan, which redistributes wealth from the bottom up, and which guarantees voters will be presented with a very clear choice in the fall, not a referendum.

Indeed, it's not unreasonable to think the entire election dynamic will be turned on its ear -- voters will be asked to vote, not on Obama, but on the far-right Romney-Ryan vision.

And what is the vision crafted by a man who credits Ayn Rand for his involvement in politics? It's one in which Medicare would be replaced with a voucher scheme; Social Security would be privatized; taxes would be cut even more for the very wealthy; and Washington would "take food from poor children, make it harder for low-income students to get a college degree, and squeeze funding for research, education, and infrastructure."

What's more, the Ryan plan does not reduce the debt, either.

This has always been less of a budget plan and more of a right-wing fantasy. As of this morning, Romney not only endorses this right-wing vision, he owns it -- and in the process, he's presented the electorate with a dramatic choice, not a referendum.

Clinton had a balanced budget. Then the Republicans went from there to double the national debt.
Clinton's Republican Congress the last six years of his presidency and the dot.com bubble were responsible for balancing the budget.

Cato Institute:

"Part of the explanation for the balanced budget is that Republicans in Congress had the common sense to reject the most reckless features of Clintonomics. Bill Clinton's budget proposed more than $100 billion in new social spending -- proposals that were mostly tossed overboard."

http://www.cato.org/publications/commentary/n...

USA Today:

"As President Clinton vetoed the Republicans’ hard-fought plan to balance the budget Wednesday, his aides were briefing Democrats on a new plan that moves him closer to GOP demands and possibly a budget deal."

http://www.usatoday.com/news/index/budget/nbu...
And then there's.

The Center for Economic and Policy Research:

"The hero of the budget surplus story was the stock bubble, not President Clinton's tax cuts and budget restraint."

http://www.cepr.net/index.php/blogs/beat-the-...

On the Issues:

Clinton wanted to raise taxes. Eventually Clinton came around to the idea of cutting the capital gains tax. The tax was cut and revenue poured in! Gingrich wanted to cut spending even more. Even though the rates were lower, the economic growth they kindled brought in hundreds of billions extra each year. The proportion of taxes paid by the richest 1% rose from 37% in 2000 to 40% in 2006, even though their tax rate had been cut! 8 years to eradicate, was gone in less than 2 years.
