Crime Rates • Blacks are seven times more likely than people of other races to commit murder, and eight times more likely to commit robbery. • When blacks commit crimes of violence, they are nearly three times more likely than non-blacks to use a gun, and more than twice as likely to use a knife. • Hispanics commit violent crimes at roughly three times the white rate, and Asians commit violent crimes at about one quarter the white rate. • The single best indicator of violent crime levels in an area is the percentage of the population that is black and Hispanic. Interracial Crime • Of the nearly 770,000 violent interracial crimes committed every year involving blacks and whites, blacks commit 85 percent and whites commit 15 percent. • Blacks commit more violent crime against whites than against blacks. Fortyfive percent of their victims are white, 43 percent are black, and 10 percent are Hispanic. When whites commit violent crime, only three percent of their victims are black. • Blacks are an estimated 39 times more likely to commit a violent crime against a white than vice versa, and 136 times more likely to commit robbery. • Blacks are 2.25 times more likely to commit officially-designated hate crimes against whites than vice versa. Gangs • Only 10 percent of youth gang members are white. • Hispanics are 19 times more likely than whites to be members of youth gangs. Blacks are 15 times more likely, and Asians are nine times more likely. Incarceration • Between 1980 and 2003 the US incarceration rate more than tripled, from 139 to 482 per 100,000, and the number of prisoners increased from 320,000 to 1.39 million. • Blacks are seven times more likely to be in prison than whites. Hispanics are three times more likely. http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/crimoff.htm The prevalence of imprisonment in 2001 was higher for -- black males (16.6%) and Hispanic males (7.7%) than for white males (2.6%) -- black females (1.7%) and Hispanic females (0.7%) than white females (0.3%) # Lifetime chances of a person going to prison are higher for -- men (11.3%) than for women (1.8%) -- blacks (18.6%) and Hispanics (10%) than for whites (3.4%) # Based on current rates of first incarceration, an estimated 32% of black males will enter State or Federal prison during their lifetime, compared to 17% of Hispanic males and 5.9% of white males. More information: http://www.ojp.usdoj.gov/bjs/homicide/race.ht... "But those numbers count only those who were jailed for a crime. In 2003, more than twice as many whites as blacks were arrested and charged with a crime, according to the FBI's Uniform Crime Reports. Of 9.5 million offenses charged, 6.7 million whites were arrested, compared to 2.5 million blacks. The most common crimes were drug abuse violations, resulting in arrest of 770,430 whites and 381,006 blacks. Whites were far more likely to be arrested driving under the influence. Of 998,035 total offenses, 877,810 of those arrested where whites. Whites outnumbered blacks about 2-1 in arrests for other crimes, including rape (11,766-6,114), aggravated assault (203,076-103,697), burglary (143,889-103,697) and larcey/theft (556,215-233,806.) Whites also were most often arrested for motor vehicle theft, arson, other assaults, fraud, embezzlement, dealing in stolen property, vandalism, weapons charges, prostitution, sex offenses, crimes against families and children, liquor laws, drunkenness, disorderly conduct, vagrancy, curfew and loitering, suspicion, as runaways and all other offenses not including traffic." http://www.ethicsdaily.com/news.php...

Wow. All of those whites arrested but such a small percentage of convictions/jail time, sounds like the whites are the ones being picked on...

Supreme court already said state voter ID laws are ok. 29 April 2008 "WASHINGTON — The Supreme Court upheld Indiana’s voter-identification law on Monday, declaring that a requirement to produce photo identification is not unconstitutional and that the state has a “valid interest” in improving election procedures as well as deterring fraud." http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/29/washington/...

The topic is South Carolina not Indiana. South Carolina is in a group of states with a history of voting rights abuses that the Justice department monitors. Secondly the issue isn't showing a photo ID The bigger issue is the inevitable evolution to requiring voting cards.
