2008 Presidential Election

Letter: Why no coverage of Obama's pastor?

I am questioning how fair and balanced The News-Times is in reporting the news. My case: On March 13 and March 14, most TV news channels showed video clips of Rev.

Why no coverage of Obama's pastor?...

Because the issue has been addressed to our satisfaction. Those who insist on covering this issue are those who are Hell Bent on keeping it alive for one purpose only. That purpose is the lame attempt draw attention from the more pressing issue of "lies. deception and exaggeration" in one resumè and presenting that resumè to an employer (The People). Claims of being caught under fire from snipers and claiming was a "misspoke". That is the issue at hand. Being in harms way and dogding bullets, are events that people would remember and would never have to "mispoke" about it, either one was under fire or one was not! Those who support the one who told that lie may want to keep this Wright issue alive, we that support the one that is ahead so far choose not too. Trying to keep and issue alive to draw attention away from a more pressing issue of Lies, deception and exaggerations simply will not work. We are satisfied with Obama's explaination, Period, Done Deal, Dead Issue. Now let move on to the issues that are important, War, Health and Economy!

Addressed to your satisfaction? Oh, spare me.

If a political and spiritual advisor to either John McCain or Hillary Clinton made remarks as racist and incendiary as those of Rev. Wright, Mr. Obama 's followers would be DEMANDING that candidate immediately withdraw from the campaign.

Black Americans certainly have legitimate grievances that deserve to be heard and addressed. But that doesn't give them license to lie, make things up and engage in what can only be characterized as hate speech.

Mr. Obama and Rev. Wright know the devastation that such talk can cause, as their community has frequently been victim to it. So they of all people should know better.

Mr. Obama has been a member of that church for more than 20 years. Rev. Wright married him and his wife and baptized his children. He served as Mr. Obama's spiritual and political advisor, and his opinions and views were widely known and widely expressed -- this was not a matter of one or two inappropriate remarks taken out of context.

So Barack Obama owns this.

Reverend Wright is "right on!"

So lets move on and talk about the billions, and billions of our tax dollars squandered in an illegal invasion and occupation of Iraq....

Refresh my memory: why did we attack Iraq again......?

Vote for Ralph Nader or Ron Paul in 2008...

.
Is that why you were as horrified as I was when Bush's friend Pat Robertson declared that 911 was the result of God punishing America because of liberals and homosexuals?

Or did you save your outrage for when Christian Nationalists declared that Bush was "hand picked by God"?

Thanks for making my point for me, OD.

When conservative Christian leaders make comments like that, they're widely reviled and ridiculed (and, btw, they deserved to be).

But when a liberal African-American minister does it, hey, that's just the way Black folks talk -- no biggie.

Time to start living up to your own (alleged) standards.

Your own standards seem to consist of attempting to point out the hypocrisy of others while wallowing in it yourself.

Perhaps it's time you adopted some new ones.

Duh, Bush lied and people died! Halliburton!(hiccup)

We invaded Iraq because they had weapons of mass destruction. Everyone knew that, Hussein used them on his own people!

If he know longer had them then it was a convincing ruse that he led the world to believe that he did have them.

When you are older than 18 you might grow some wisdom and then you'll get it. If you don't let's hope others do because they might be coming for you here in your own neighborhood instead of on the streets of Kabul and Baghdad.

What I find interesting is that Obama wanted Don Imus's head for his comments yet fully supports his own hate-monger "reverend" who says a LOT worse

Obama is clearly the best candidate for office, and the only one who possesses the ability to restore our country's damaged reputation.

HOW? WE ARE ALL WAITING TO HEAR SOME SUBSTANCE!

I'm John Kerry and I paid for this message!

(Maybe later Barack and I will go windsurfing. Hope he has more wind than I did so as to avoid the press!)

Don't forget to consider Rev Hagee who McCain has gotten in bed with! He's stated that the Catholic Church is the GREAT WHORE! McCain's other buddies (Robertson, Dobson, Falwell) have blamed the US for 9/11 and have far surpassed Rev. Wright's ugly remarks AND made them bedrock principles of their mega-scam-churches. Hey, remember Robertson saying that Katrina was caused by love of homosexuals and too many abortions? Remember?w Wright has NOTHING on the reverends in the Right Wing!

God didn't punish America on 9/11, fascist Muslims did!

The Muslims hate America even more than Obama's preacher.

How could I ever become the first male first lady when the GOP will continually play my finger-pointing impeachment process on a "loop"?

Along with:

Our "business agreement" marriage of convenience

"that depends on what your definition of is, is"

Jennifer Flowers

Vince Foster

Paula Jones

Monica Lewinsky

Whitewater

Jim & Susan McDougal

Frank Giustra-Kazakhstan-Uranium affair

and Hillary's:

Ireland tales

Bosnia lies

Vote to go to war in Iraq

rules of the DNC

Norman Hsu

..........Looks like my fairy tale of roaming the white house and interviewing future interns was just a dream after all!

I think mainstream America is itching to distance itself from any candidate that seems too chummy with religious extremists like those at Bob Jones University, etc.

Perhaps we're just sick of seeing something as private and personal as faith being tarted up and wh0red out to turn tricks for votes.
