For those Brewster haters (Reusse, etc), this explains why Mason had to be fired. He apparently felt he could use Barber/Maroney and get a Big Ten winner and new job. When he failed to hold a 21 point lead against Michigan in the Dome, it all unraveled and the cupboard was left bare.

1 We are now in year five of the Maturi plan to change coaches and bring in a cheer leader type. Some schools avoid such a mess, we do not. An AD with one half of one normal brain works out a clear, clean plan for moving from one coach to the next IF he is certain he wants to make a change. Either an agreed replacement is brought in the year before the change OR the existing coach is knifed in the back before his contract runs down to the last two years. The timing of this "change" needs to allow the new guy a chance to recruit (not like Brewster in his first class). In any case, we are now, once again, in the same boat. Maturi is just too stupid to learn from his mistakes. At the end of this season, Brewster will have two years left and the obvious clock will be ticking, again. It is all so STUPID. The coach has the full support of the AD or the AD must fire the coach and buy him out of his last two years. There is no other sane choice. How anyone who was at the debacle prior to the Music City Bowl against Virginia did not get that message is past my ability to understand?! The play to keep Mason until he got us TCF while at the same time gutting his recruiting efforts by giving him no contract did get us TCF, but it did gut recruiting and our football program. To me it clearly showed who Maturi is, a man who wanted the revenue from a new football stadium a lot more than he wanted a good football program. This is why I think that if we win those first two games this season, Maturi will extend Brewster that week before Cal and reality arrive. The guy does not like the mess he has created. |

1 But then, Brewster has never claimed to be a coach, just a GM and recruiter. |

He can't produce a draft choice yet...they're all freshmen and sophomores (minus the couple JC kids - of which Traye Simmons will be drafted next year). |

1 and led them to one Big Ten win his first season. Mason had 10 years and couldn't finish higher than fourth. Time for him to go despite the man crush you have on him. |

1 And five Big Ten wins in his third season. You can bet your bottom dollar you will be hearing a lot about that fact this season if Brewster falls well short of that standard. As for man crush, all Coach Mason did was improve the program over the sad mess he inherited and got us the new stadium. If Coach Brewster improves the program, he will be worth keeping. So far, so bad. If I could get Mason back I would not take him for half the money. Saying that does not make either Maturi or Brewster worth crap. Thus far, they have been all talk and hype and damn few wins. Stay tuned for some real football games in the fall. The results will, as always, speak for themselves. Even with the new stadium, talk will not hide real results, one way or the other. |
