2 - if the Ducks aren't a top-five team nationally, then I have to assume the rankings are being handled by the same guys who bought us the last Afghan election; - move over Pete, you've got some serious company up there on that pedestal -- that's right, he's the roly-poly guy who talks like a machine gun out of the side of his mouth -- name's Chip Kelly, the New Hampshire rube who SERIOUSLY out-coached you last night; - grace and humility are in short supply in this world. It will be fascinating to see if Coach Carroll and his team have the class to admit that they were simply trounced by a clearly superior group of coaches and players on the night, give Oregon the (obvious) credit they deserve, wish them well, then move on and learn something from this fiasco; - a team that consistently starts a true freshman at quarterback, no matter his outstanding high school resume or his overweening self-confidence, is tempting the football gods. Last night in Eugene the gods were clearly angry. |

The trojans are a medicore team this year. A supposedly talented team touted at the start of the seasn is not performing up to expectations on any level, Poor decisions in game planning and game time decisions. Poor defensive tackling and The offence has never measured up. I predict 7-3 finish or 6-4 finish. Perhaps no bowl appearance and a challegning recruiting campaign going for 2010..

I watched my team get their butts kicked on all sides of the field. I am sad but knew this would be a tough year. Every team plays way over their heads when SC comes to town. Carroll lost more then just players to the NFL this past year, he lost quality coaches to the Husky program and hired ones that haven't lived up to their resume's this year and the current players are playing like it. SC has also lost some players to injury but that's no excuse. Carroll does need to look at the coaching.
I would like to know if the NCAA has a rule against some of the uniform coloring. Running the type of offense Oregon does lends the football to be quite camouflaged. This seems questionable, but still no excuses SC would have lost anyway. I'm going to the Stanford-Oregon game next week and look forward to the Cardinal kicking the Beavers tails. ALL-IN-ALL GO TROJANS |

Who's in charge Rocky Sato.
What kind of preparation was that. I have not seen USC linebackers get blocked by wide receivers since Scott Ross was the Middle Linebacker. Stop giving up the soft corners and open flankers at the line of scrimmage. Get it right! |

Life long Trojan Fan and will remain one until the end, but could not bear to watch the second half. Instead I went to see the Clippers lose to the Dallas Mavericks. Word to the Trojan Football team, never forget this one or it could happen again next year...Fight On...

1 However, many of the important plays that set the tone of this game where plays were the USC defence actually DID defend the play and broke it down. It was large yardage after it was broken. PC said this going into half time. In other words, the USC defense did do better than most against this offence. The USC defence can be assured that they were doing something even pro teams can't do well. How to stop the yardage after the play breaks down...that is a different type of question. I don't really know the answer to that...still thinking about it. Someone above said that everybody plays better against USC. This fact can not be overstated. USC makes everybody look good. But it is just an illusion. These teams do not have the talent to keep up that sort of play week-in and week-out. This is not an opinion...look at the data...look at their numbers against all other teams they play. There is a very statistically significant increase while playing against USC. This is not to say they are all good...their yards per carry may go from 1 to 1.5 or something...but they truly do try to knock off USC. There is no team (Florida, Texas, or Alabama) that could keep up with USC's schedule this year and look good. Its all freakanomics. Your a coach of a middle tier school like the ducks and you look at your upcoming year of games. Most years you will lose 3-6 games...you just don't have the talent to expect anything else. What will look better...a 6 loss year but with a win against USC or a more responsible 3 loss year but no win against any real powerhouse like USC. Everycoach will take the first and plan his whole year around beating USC. You all know this is true. So...all the coaching and the extra effort by the coaching and players...all goes towards that game. This is why it is an illusion. None of these coaches or players can sustain this indefinitely. They are playing above their talent level. It is unsustainable. USC on the other hand has been all over the country playing very difficult games and playing at or below their talent level because of the grueling schedule. Fear not Trojan fans. USC rocks. Also, if you are a highschool player looking around. Go with the program that prepares you for pro ball if you have any aspirations of pro ball. These fad offences work but no pro team will ever run them consistently because the QB gets hit so often and a good QB is expensive and hard to come by. Thus, you just won't see it. Don't spend your time learning something that will not prepare you for the next level. If you are talented...go were the talent is...go where you get trained to be in the pros. Try to get yourself into the USC program. It is simple. Let the guys who just want to play a little ball until they get into law school or get an ESPN job or something go to where they run the fad offence/defence. They do it because they don'at have the talent to play like the pros. It is actually more difficult to play real football. USC rocks. |

Yeah, don't come to USC unless you are really talented. I think players kinda know whether they should be applying to USC. Don't come unless you can compete with the best. If you are really good you will get your time to shine....and you will shine bright and get a great NFL career.
The beach and the eye candy that we have here is so cal...these benefits are the intangibles. Your right...other programs don't have these either. USC Rocks!! |

That's a lot of California whine you're passing around here, beginning with the lame complaint that the offensive scheme used by Oregon and a number of other schools is "impossible to defend." Sorry, but the NCAA isn't going to outlaw an offensive scheme simply because USC doesn't know how to prepare for it. For God's sake, read the words of PC himself. He did a lousy job of preparing for the Oregon game and said so. And if you read the words of your Blue Chip players at SC ... overlooking the utter disbelief that THEY could be beaten so badly ... they Oregon was faster and performing its game plan to near perfection. By the way, your skewed perception that USC football is a minor league NFL club is daffy. If you believe that is the purpose of your football program, go for it. Mature adults know the NFL is for a few and that the vast majority ... about 98.5%... will take off their pads for the last time at the end of their college years. Yeah, I know it must be disappointing for you but most kids know it and are wise enough to get an education and enjoy football as well. The inside story up our way was that what really beat USC was that their players were not conditioned to play a full game at the pace Oregon dictated. More than a few players at Oregon commented on how they grew quiet about mid-way thru the 3rd Quarter and simply could not keep up the pace. Buddy, if your beloved Trojans are prepared for a full 4 quarters of football, don't blame it on the offensive scheme thrown at you. Blame your players and coaches. |
