I think it's great that this young man wants to first and foremost, get a top notch education. Sure he will have some tough competition, but you see that at all of the major programs. Hopefully, some competition can make ND a major program again. QB's get hurt and why not have 2 or 3 guys on your team that you feel comfortable putting in. I like how he doesn't shy away from the challenge!!

Wake me up when ND becomes relevant again. Powlus, Mirer, Quinn... they all end up on the same scrap heap. If Crist wanted to win an actual bowl game and have a real shot at a national title, he'd go to USC or LSU. You just hate to see kids hoodwinked by the past...

you're right frayzon, the #1 recruiting class that's following 2 in the top 10 has no shot at a national title

I love all the ND fans saying "this year will be a powerhouse". They haven't wona championship since 1988 but to hear them talk they've chosen not to win. Wake up ND fans, you could have Montana coached by Rockne and not be relevant. Heck, I'd be shocked if you just win a BCS bowl game! Weiss is a joke and ND is a has been program! FIGHT ON!

troy, who's saying they're going to be a powerhouse this year? you show your ignorance and hate when you say ND wouldn't be relevant if they had montana and were coached by Rockne. They could win the NC and not be relevant in your eyes. When's the last time a has been program got the #1 recruiting class in the country? Get your comments in now, while you can, because you know it wont last long

"Weiss is a joke"
you must know a little bit more about football than all theses football players and HS football coaches that have a huge influence on where their players go to play in college.

If they won a NC...heck even a BCS bowl game they would be considered relevant! The game has passed the school by. Problem with ND fans is they don't realize they are not important any more. How many times have we had ND fans screaming "now we are going to be great". It has been since 1988! Weiss is a joke! His leadership brought ND their worst season in school history, he is stand off to alumni and past players and doesn't have any relationship with current players. Weiss has one shining moment in his so far lackluster career: almost beating USC! In his third year at USC Pete Carroll won his second BCS bowl and his first National Championship.

Not sure what Carroll has to do with Weiss, but he's built probably the biggest powerhouse we've ever seen. You use one year from ND to comment on, but you say nothing on how Weiss developed Willingham's kids. They were nothing more than average before he got here. I bet you never even heard of Samardzija before Weiss got to ND. Weiss is still putting his team together, and with this class, it is starting to fill the needs not filled from other classes. They're loading up on defense, their WR's coming in are ridiculous(one's been mentioned as being better than Larry Fitzgerald out of HS)
You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Take a look at what kids from this class have said about Weiss and ND. After a 3-9 season, they're still pulling in the #1 recruiting class with only decommit, and he was replaced by another 4 star player, and they all talk about the bond they've formed(Weiss included) before they've even set foot on campus. Why dont you take a look at this recruiting class over on Rivals or Scout and come back and get your insults in because you know you wont be able to for long.

"he is stand off to alumni and past players and doesn't have any relationship with current players."
he's got 2 former players on the coaching staff and had Lou and Ara coach the Spring game last year. Any reason why you may think this, or just spouting insults out of your ###

Oh boy, now we get the old "it was Willingham's fault" talk! You domers are a riot. You have not won anything since 1988! What I am saying is this: quit gloating about your ranks in recruiting and start gloating about your ranks at the end of the season! It has been documented by alumni that Weiss is very cold to them, this year at the senior banquet he didn't get up once to give any speeches he merely had an assistant talk. If he has a record to brag about then maybe he can Belichick the situation but he had the worst season in ND history...with his players! Quit giving the nation the old "we're back talk" and win....something! P.S.- not a Missouri fan, lifelong USC fan.

The only thing about ND that gets me is Willingham had Average Records and excellent Graduation rate and an already exceptional school where high graduation rates are the norm... When he failed to put up big #'s on the field he was released before his contract was up and Weiss was brought in...
Weiss'#'s on the field have been BELOW that of Willinghams and he still has a job?
Doesn't make sense to me... Why give one guy a second chance and not another???
For that I think ND has failed!!!

Right on: Charlie W inherited a miserable class of recruits left behind by mr willingham! Ergo, a miserable year. But then, ND has the most powerfull recruiting system of all. Look at Mater Dei, in San Jose, CA, that won 154 games without a loss over a period of years. And, there are countless other such private schools that attract top talent in the same way. Where do those recognized as top talent, in line for a college ride look first? ND, ALWAYs..a sports writer in CA had it right when he wrote; "ND should Never lose a game!" But then, That was BEFORE Pete C came along...Flyrod joe wrote: Not sure what Carroll has to do with Weiss, but he's built probably the biggest powerhouse we've ever seen. Willingham's kids last year is this year at ND. Also what has he did at Washington??? HE FIRED his whole staff of coaches. The fans there were calling for him to be fired. Rivals said the last 2 years at ND ranked as the 2 worst recruiting years at ND. Ranked in the high fifys and his last year in the high seventys. Read about it and weep.

Flyrod, I think you meant DeLaSalle High of Concord, CA and "the Streak" as it is known around here. You Pete Carroll lovers are the ones who have blinders on. With admissions standards like USC's, they better be good. As they say out here on the left coast, if you're rich and have good grades, you go to Stanford. If you're rich and have no grades you go to USC... Or I'd rather have flunked out of Stanford (or ND) than to have a diploma from USC...Go Irish!

Two #8 finishes for ND in the last 2 years and no one on the field not even one player? stepped up & contribuited? ND player development under Weis is a F'NNNNN JOKE The funny thing with Dommer's is every year they have the same CRY.....WAIT UNTIL NEXT YEAR~!!! Yeah ND is back LOL~! Get real LOL~!

Hopefully Crist can take a hit because the Pickle Boy AKA Jimmy Clausen is a woosie~!
By NEVER getting hit in high school sure did not prepare him for the thrashing he absorbed last season.....how many NC's did he claim he was going to bring to ND?
What an arrogant prick to Announce his LOI signing at the CFB Hall of Fame???? like he would ever get that far.
He only played the lowest level of competition in high school in California...the proof is in the pudding.
USC's 3rd string QB Aaron Corp right now is better and more talented than Jimmy Clausen is and he's younger too.
Clausen should have been in college for almost 2 years ago it's nice that his daddy held him back for Athletic purposes.
