Justin Bocot, one of the top remaining shooting guards in the country, decided he didn't want to wait any long. The 6-foot-3, 175-pound shooting guard from Bloomington (Ill.) High School is headed to mid-major power Southern Illiniois.
Bocot's mother, Heidi, confirmed the news with Rivals.com
on Monday night on her son's decision.
"Other schools talked about how they wanted to offer me and all this, but they never really put it on the table," Bocot told the Bloomington Pantagraph.
A number of high-major programs, including Illinois, Iowa, Iowa State, DePaul and Kansas State, all looked hard at the shooter but SIU was the first to tender a scholarship.
Bocot is averaging 20 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.2 steals for Bloomington (20-4) this season.
SIU hosted Bocot for a visit over the weekend.
And other potential was found tied to his name from the Illini msg boards:
I've attached an old Scout story that suddently has become much more of an interesting matter. Some of you may recall that Justin Bocot from central Illinois attended MM at CU. He's an '07 small forward who's ranked about 25 at that position by Scout. But here's the interesting note in the article. It quotes Verdell Jones - the highly desired point guard from Champaign - as saying that where Bocot goes could really affect Jones's decision. The quote from Jones about Bocot is: "That's my guy." http://depaul.scout.com/2/547733.html
Verdell Jones, if tempted, along with the current recruiting class could allow SIU to make a legitimate run at a national title!
Props to the SIU staff and to our main man Coach Lowery!
