The time is NOW. The GOPHER DEFENSE needs to send a message that this team is making a run at the top tier of the BIG TEN. Much has been suggested about the GOPHERS upcoming road schedule as if the TEAM wil look past PURDUE; That would be a crucial mistake which I do not believe will occur. This team understands that this week is a STATEMENT WEEK for them and the DEFENSE has to deliver the MESSAGE LOUD AND CLEAR, "WE CAN AND WILL STOP THE RUN." The DEFENSE needs to also do a better job getting pressure on the QB. Expect third down STOP percentage to go way up this week as well. The difference will be accomplished with a particular SPEED focus. PURDUE backs will not be allowed to skirt through the secondary for long runs as done against prior opponents early in games. Stangely for PURDUE, this year the passing game is not their strong suit. GO GOPHERS

If they lose to Purdue, the season is over they might only beat SDSU and possibly Illinois. Brewster has yet to prove anything other than that he can run his mouth with a lot of coachspeak

The reason I hate to see "hype" in any form or format is that, in the end, reality rules and those who have been motivated by hype crash into a brick wall of failed expectations. Personally, I am much more comfortable with "blood, sweat and tears", one step at a time.

40 years of rotten football says otherwise. If they beat Purdue, so what? They will get blown out at OSU and Penn St the following weeks. They are about where they have been for 40 years-mediocre or worse.

Another crucial game. That's life in the Big Ten. Gophers may not have hopes for a top spot in the conference, but a decent mid-standings spot for a good bowl game is still within reach. A loss to Purdue would end all of that, especially at home. I think the Gophers are up to the challenge - I do hope they don;t wear the all gold uniforms those - yuk!

Based on what with Brew? 4-14 in Big Ten games is not encouraging for any third year coach. He wanted the job and part of the responsibility of having the title of Head Coach is to win some games.

No they don't. I'm a great Gopher fan of 43 adult years and I hate the Maturi/Brewster system of hype, risky recruiting of really weak charterers and the pass happy, low percentage offense. It is year three and it is time to deliver something past a pitch and catch game between two excellent players he did not recruit. In any case, once you turn of Brewster than your disloyalty will be OK to you because you know best. This coach has done nothing to earn or maintain my confidence yet.

But I do agree that you should shut up if you are going to misrepresent Gopher football so totally. Was our 10-3 season really all that mediocre?

you need to calm down there insult boy...this is for people to express their own opinions, not for hot headed folks like you to personally attack someone else becuz they don't think like you!! I am glad he doeesn't think like you, then we would have 2 clueless people here instead of just one....
and oh, by the way, how can you argue with him?. the Gopher's record speaks for itself...total ineptitude!!!!!!!!!!Peace out.......

to answer your question...well, yes it was...a perfect example of Glenn Mason...you set up a soft preseason by beating up on St. Kate's and so when the dust settles at year end you can puff out your chest and look at that 10-3 record and feel good when, in reality, they never really beat anybody they REALLY NEEDED TO BEAT now did they?...Bingo..point made......

Daily Horoscope for January 3

Gemini

You are in a dissatisfied mood, and are just spoiling for a fight today. However, be warned that this could backfire on you unpleasantly, especially if you take on superiors at work. At home, everyone is used to your behaviour and they generally make allowances for you, as they will today.
