He is the top ranked quarterback, but hardly anyone is comfortable saying he is a sure thing.

Um, Dan is the NFL writer on the Tribune, not the Bears writer. That's why this article matters.
However, I express my extreme joy, at least for the moment and hopefully for years to come, that I don't PERSONALLY give a ___ about any of these QBs in the article, as the Bears do have theirs.

The Bears will take a late round flyer on Mike Teel for insurance on Cutler's inevitable emotional breakdown.

Last time I checked Matthew Stafford played in a pro-style offense at Georgia. Plus, he played against far better defenses than Sanchez at USC.

Stafford played in a pro style offense for 3 years. So how would Sanchez be "more NFL ready" after only starting one year?

How in the world could you begin to intimate that Sanchez is better because he played in a pro style offense? Have you actually ever SEEN UGA play? We run a pro style offense. Stafford started three seasons in that offense. Sanchez started one. Seriously, do you writers even bother to perform basic fact checking these days?

After reading this poorly researched review - I've found one more reporter, and sports section, to avoid. With budget cuts at most major newspapers taking place - the Tribune should consider a syndicated columnist to pull well researched, well thought-through content. Better coverage, easier on the budget.

Didn't seem to do much against those good defenses did he? And he will see even better ones in the NFL.

This might have something to do with the success of USC quarterbacks and lack of success of Georgia qbs. What qbs has Georgia or Riecht produced to the NFL lately?

Actually, "Mr. Breeze", Stafford will be the third out of three QB's he has coached at UGA to be drafted into the NFL. Again, this will be 3 out of 3 in case you misunderstood my comment.

What in the world does that have to do with getting basic facts wrong? Stafford played three years in a pro-style offense, which is completely contrary to what this "reporter" has claimed.

I said "sucess" not "drafted". Give me some names of "sucessful NFL" qbs he has coached. Look all the way back to his time at Florida State if you must. I'm not saying the dude can't play. But you know as well as I do that NFL scouts will compare this to the sucess of USC qbs, fair or not.

You right on the money about the "reporter" not having his facts straight. My comment alluded to "real" reason why some (not all) NFL scouts may consider Sanchez over Stafford. In fact, my point is it has nothing to do with the offense he ran in college.

Unless the QB is a sure fire guy, do
not risk a high pick on a QB. You can find QB's mid to late in the draft.
For example, Brady-6th round, Bulger-
6th round, Warner-UFA, Hasselbeck-5th round. Look at some 1st round QB's
that struggled or never made it:Ryan
Leaf #2 overall in 1998, Heath Schuler
#3 overall in 1994, Cade McNown #12
overall in 1999, Akili Smith #3 overall in 1999. There are some great
ones that have gone in the 1st round
but take a big time OL or DL and not
only get longevity on the pick but
get value for the invested monies.
