I hear MD State Pen has a few decent basketball players too! Wasn't the death of Bias a lesson learned?

Enough of this crappy reporting. Let GW get Evans in and help the kid become a player we can all be proud of.

Wow, Terp Nation. That comment about Skip Prosser was inappropriate and disgusting. You think another guard, with only 2 years of eligibility, will help? And at what cost?
|
|
|
Debbie Yow owes a great deal of her sucess to Gary Williams and Ralph Freidgen, hard to think she'd screw Gary over about a player he is this adamant about. And Terp Nation,Skip Prosser was a great coach and person,if that was an attempt at humor you are one sick s.o.b.

So is your implication that Len Bias was in some way a felon. Please let me know your source for that information. In life, people always make mistakes. Unfortunately, Len Bias paid the ultimate and a tragic price for his mistake. A mistake that affects me as a person and loyal Terp fan to this day because he was a special person, first of all and secondly a gifted athlete. As to Tyree Evans is he a felon, since you know so much? In life everyone, especially kids deserve a second and maybe a third chance. With that chance perhaps they won't become the felon you speak about. |

there has to be other prospects without a troubled past that actually DESERVES a shot of success. why neglect them to give a chance to a social degenerate

I completely agree with this statement. Come on, a 23 year old and he still has 2 years of eligibility left. There needs to be some kind of age limit. It is simply not fair for 17-18 year old freshmen who study, don't break the law, etc., to have to compete against 23 year old men. This guy will be 25 years old before he will graduate - if he graduates. I am all for second chances, but this guy has already had his fair share. |

Unfortunately, this whole issue revolves around Gary not hitting the recruiting trail like most other D-1 coaches and having to scramble in April/May to find a "player". I have nothing against Tyree and hope that the young man can improve his life, but the fact that MD went after him at all is sad testimony to the state of their recruiting.

Amen to Pearl's comment.
I truly hope that with the proper mentoring, that Tyree can complete his Jr, Sr years at UofMD and better still make a statement about himself. BUT, when will UofMD be in the Recruiting Mix for some of the blue-chip High School stars, right here in MARYLAND? |

"Last year, Evans was charged with felony possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. He ended up pleading to a misdemeanor marijuana charge and was sentenced to 12 months in jail." I did not say Bias was a felon. What I inferring is that athletes who use or sell drugs are bad for the program. Evans belongs on a street corner and not in the UMD program. People make mistakes, but I don't consider selling weed a mistake that should be rewarded with a scholarship. There are much more deserving kids out there who might actually make use of a college education. |

Hey Felon, let's just hope you never find yourself in the wrong time at the wrong place, you can be charged with anything at anytime and if you ever looked real close at the statisitcs you would find that most of those charges never stick.Exhibit A why Law Enforcement will often charge an indivivual with 5 or 6 different charges hoping to get lucky with 1 or 2 of them.Let's give him a chance and see what happens here.Zero tolerance,oh and by the way how has Maryland faired with that group of blue chip atheletes we got after the National Championship?Notso good if memory serves me right.

Byron Mouton speaks about Gary Williams and why he thinks Maryland basketball is not the same

Get real. The guy has way too much baggage with him.Gary is and always will be a loser already so let him go elsewhere. Gee and I thought Lefty was bad. Sports, which I love and coach, are an extra and need be earned not a means. No gurantee. I am a grad on MD and my son, who has a Masters in computer science and my daughter a CPA were both rejected for admission to MD. Go firure. Guess they should be able to hit a jumper and pass a football 80 yards and not studied . MY FAULT. Taught them the wrong values.

The only recruit Gary can get has a criminal record, ever wonder why Gary can't get any McDonalds all-americans? When and who was the last blue chip player Gary recruited?
Make Chuckie coach and he can hire Lefty as his #1 recruiter. Lefty at 70+ years would still be a better recruiter than Gary in his prime. |

Maryland has concerns with Coach Gary Williams recruitment of Tyree Evans. They should. They should show similar concern with the fact that Gary Willams has a horrific graduation rate.
