Just a bunch of government flunkies that are over-funded and OVER staffed. Most taxpapers would be amazed at how much this bunch of hot dogs are costing them. I continue to advocate the abolishment of this worthless, political agency, and re-direct the monies they abuse to county sheriff departments. Everyone of them are arrogant, self-serving, and fail to obey the same rules/laws they enforce on the rest of us! And who would you call if you had a problem ? Many county Sherriffs are reducing staff due to budget problems.

More potential double dippers loading up the retirement pensions to OPERS. License and registration please - that will be $200. Sorry I can't help you with the break ins, OSP is out harasing the public. Call your County or local PD for some help with the criminal element. Nest stop Truck enforcement as OSP collects a pension and take the next gig on the turnpikes harasing the big rigs.

Investigated everything from homicides to computer crime. The general population has no idea what the State Patrol does for them and how we assist other police agencies because we don't feel the need to put on a news conference every time we seize a pound of dope on the highway. Why? Because we're not looking to get reelected. We do our jobs protecting the citizens of this state and we go home. We're not looking for votes or for everyone to pat us on the back. We do our job. Do you know how many people were killed on ohio's roadways in 2010? Much more than victims of other homicides in this state. It all counts. Saving lives is saving lives.

I've lived in or driven extensively in 49 of the 50 states and 13 other countries and I can unequivocally say you are full of crap. Obvious problems with substituting anecdotal "evidence" for fact aside, I don't see any more OSP units on the road in Ohio than I do marked units in any other state. However, if one DOES tend to notice more OSP units than HP units in other states, it may have to do with the fact OSP enforces traffic only with marked units which tend to park in plain sight (in other words, deterrence as a means of enforcement). That's as opposed to many other states, where one can see traffic stops being made on the interstates by all manner of unmarked units, including different colored plain SUVs, pick up trucks, and pony cars. Many state police agencies also routinely hide their units behind bridge abutments, trees, brush, whatever. Some even have paved pads in hidden spots just for that purpose. In other words, they're out there just as much if not more in other states, but unless they're on a traffic stop, you won't notice them. Duh. So bottom line, your comments reflect your own personal biases and ignorance far more than they reflect reality. Have a nice day.

Keep up the good work, OSP! Thanks for being out there and visible as much as possible. You are appreciated by those with an emotional age higher than their own shoe size and more than two brain cells to rub together.

The sneakiest I ever saw was on the Garden State Parkway in New Jersey. I rounded a curve and was waved over to stop by a New Jersey state trooper. He said I had been speeding, detected by radar. I said the laws of physics must be suspended here as radar can't turn corners. He smiled and said, "Did you happen to see that tractor mower in the median a mile or so back?" Sure enough, they were catching speeders from a lawn tractor.

There is certainly a lot of tripe and pablum being written about the alleged heroics of these meter maids. Really how much training does it take to fill out a ticket booklet? They write up the same 20-30 violations, day in and day out. Morever, their employer, the state takes a certain cut of the ticket revenue, if the ticket is written along a state highway. The big fights are between agencies. This occurs when the ticket is written. Sheriffs like the tickets written up on a county highway. Township officers like to name a township road and OSP likes to name the nearest state highway. Its nothing personal to the motorists, its strictly business. You know the meter maids have to pay tribute to their bosses as a member of any organized crime syndicate must.

Now, go handle that barking dog complaint!

This agency may be a law enforcement agency, but they are not a police agency. First off Basic Police Officer Training is half as long as the required training to become a Trooper. Check the numbers on who siezes the most amount of drugs in Ohio. Then take a look at the number of people killed in Ohio by criminals vs how many die in traffic crashes. When you applied to be a "real police officer" you knew the city funds city police, the county funds the Sheriff's department and the state funds the Highway Patrol. All three play an improtant roll in safety for all Ohioans. In 1933 when the State Highway Patrol was created it was and continues to be for traffic enforcement, so you can focus on real police work. If your unhappy with your pay quit and go somewhere else, there are plenty of city's in Ohio that pay more than the Highway Patrol. PS... there are many Troopers that used to be "real police officers".

Clearly some of you don't know what the OSHP really does. Maybe you should do some research before commenting on things. The OSHP handles many situations outside of their cars, including drugs, kidnapping, and domestics just to name a few. No one is perfect but we should be happy there are people out there willing to do these times of jobs. It isn't easy.I wish more stories were wrote about the good these men and women do. Then maybe the public would have a different view.

But they do the traffic job so that your so called "real cops" can go handle the murderers, rapists, assaults, domestics, etc. If you think that these troopers don't run into any of those while working traffic, you are kidding yourself. Besides, any of them could have been a "real cop" if they wanted to. Usually it is the jealous "real cops" that couldn't make the cut to be a trooper that post comments like yours...
