Funny.

Right next to a story that talks about how the dorms are potential fire traps.

Yeah, common sence (sic), who needs that silly pride stuff when we can walk around, dull-eyed and whimpering, as we beat our chests and demand government assistance?

Glad to see these terrific women are being honored as they should be.

Sure, money is tight.

But when you consider the amazing achievement of this team;
the great press Connecticut has gotten as a result (including "Person of the Week" on national tv); plus the money that flowed into Connecticut during the tournaments and throughout the season because of our terrific basketball teams -- there's nothing wrong with giving some back.

We should be thankful we have something so positive to celebrate. The joy and happiness this event will bring to so many people cannot be measured in dollars and cents.

It will be money well spent.

I worry that the State is contributing to the parade in these financial times. Some times a declaration is enough. Nothing against the women - they did an amazing job, but is a parade always necessary?

What a waste of money and insult to the University of Hartford since it is in their territory.

Want to have a parade? Have it in Storrs!!!!!!!!

Not every CT citizen is a UCONN fan! In fact, I bet a poll would reveal that at least 90% could care less about either the mens or womens basketball teams.

More shots will be fired. The feral barbarians of hartford will be out. These women are black. Cant wait to see the arrest report after the parade.
You are one sick puppy. The fans of womens baskeball don;t' care what color they are. We love them because they play as a team and are exceptional players They give us something in the long winter to look forward to and they acheived the highest award they could. Congratulations UConn

I forgot one thing. The sign in Storrs when they got back should have said "Welcome Home! Now go Home!" Since none of them are from CT.
They should be ashamed of themselves for not playing at a college in their homestates if they are soooooo good. Instead they have to come together to form a Stacked Team in a state they could give a damn about.
You probably couldn't even get in to your home state school. What they learn from Geno and his assistant coaches is more than basketball. Eat your heart out you can't play sports or excell in anything. Go back to watching your WWF

Yes, the women deserve their accolades, and a parade is a nice way to show our appreciation. That being said part of me feels that these young athletes are being used as advertisements for incumbents. I see congratulating them as an honorable thing that a leader may do. When the accolades are presented on camera, or with the microphones rolling, the words somehow seem hollow. That being said, shame on the governor for using tax dollars, and the sweat and hard work of these fine young ladies for her own personnel and political gain.

.....and also shame on the companies for using these women also. This article read more like an advertisement than a news story.

A wonderful post and accurately stated. How about something new to this whole tribute thing. I am not a (GWA) government worker attacker but every once in awhile; how about relaxing the rules a little. Show some real appreciation and donate your time for four hours. Money couldn't buy the positive press and thanks from the public
My personal request is that the governor and the other wonderful politicians walk behind the horses as to not spoil the moment for these young women who play and behave so well.

I'm sure Hartford will make money--Police OT and parking tickets...Some cars will be towed and stolen. Great for slackers who have no life or intellect. Oh--That is Jody Rell!

I have said it before - TOO MUCH HYPE and NOT NEWS - Keep this shi* on the sports page where it belongs. Nothing wrong with a parade but it ain't a lead story.

The Courant needs to review its journalistic standards. Way too much press for college sports - there is a whole other world out there.

At least it is over for the season.
