UT decision will likely keep UTEP in C-USA

Full story: El Paso Times

The Texas Longhorns are staying in the Big 12 Conference. That means the UTEP Miners may have lost an opportunity to move to a conference that would give them more natural rivalries.

Mountain West? Why would UTEP go to a conference that rejected them already?

This is a horrible story, with no facts or quotes from anyone who knows anything. It's just mindless speculation and fantasy.

I am glad UTEP will be staying in C-USA(for now). UTEP needs to build a 7-8 win-per-season football team before they ever get invited to a BCS conference. Why not focus on that instead of appearing desparate and waiting for other schools to make moves then begging to replace them in the conference that they left? The schools in the Mountain West ditched UTEP. Why try to get into that conference? Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. HELLO people! Form new rivalries. Expand East. I doubt Memphis new much about UTEP 10 years ago but guess what: based on articles and posts in El Paso and Memphis they know who we are now. Beating them on their homecourt to end their long winning streak probably did wonders for UTEP in Memphis. And UTEP used players from Memphis to do that! SLAP! UTEP football needs the support of its students, win or lose. Pay the fee already!! Students want El Pasoans to show up and support the Miners and that's fine. But where are the students at the football games!? Over 20,000 students are at the school!! Where are they at the football games? If YOU are not going to buy a ticket then foot the 'student athletic' fee!

Earth to UT El Paso:

UT Austin is the "Mother-ship" in the universe, and -------they will not let a step-child the likes of UTEP that is part of the University of Texas System into the same conference with the "Mother-ship"

When Texas Western College won the 66 NCAA Basketball Championship-----a name change to include University of TExas in front of El Paso.

hahaha this guy. they barely go to games when they are free and now you want to charge them. the football team simply needs to win more games.

I, for one, am happy UTEP isn't getting shafted in all of this conference movement. CUSA is fine.

How about you go F**K yourself and we don't pay for tickets. Sounds like a good plan to me

No prob.

I found the whole conference realignment a bit scary, where schools like UTEP and NMSU could left out in the cold with gutted conferences and not much in the way of TV revenue. Stability in the Big 12 is probably a blessing for both schools.

UTEP has nothing to offer a bigger better confrence. hey would be a drag on the Big 12, Pac 10 or any of the other power house confrences. MWC would not take them, the WAC is a joke. Stay pu in C USA and be happy.

UTEP had one of their most successful seasons in basketball last year and still averaged less than 10k a home game. A pathetic, but all too typical, showing by El Pasoans.
this is the truth, the people and students need to support the team...a perfect example of this would be Texas A&M. They really havent done anything relevant in football lately but the support they get is enormous and that is why they were still being considered by the PAC-10 and SEC. And as far as student support goes, i went to A&M and guess what, we did not get free tickets to any events, we had to buy a sports pass and i paid about $200 to get into every sporting event. they also had other packages if you just wanted certain sports, but point being is that there needs to be more support from the entire community

UTEP is the outsider and "uninvited" because it needs to work to improve itself . It hasn't had credibility as a sports university.

And Colorado and Nebraska want some better opportunities than the two from OK and 3 from Tx. Like too much inbreeding.

May as well call it Big 8 not the Big 12. Or maybe the big 3.

UTEP poses no threat to UT. However, we offer them no benefit. If we start winning 10 games or more every year and sell out the Sun Bowl consistently, they'd let us in because we could potentially make them more money without ever really being a threat to beat them.(See Baylor)

Bob Stull is UTEP! El Paso is soooooooo lucky to have Mr. Stull in El Paso. Hey, El Paso grows on you. God Bless EP. I really dont care what happens with conference realignment. As long as El Paso has Coach Stull we will be alright.

The University of Texas has won 39 championships which puts them in 7th place. UTEP not in the top ten, so how have they won more than UT?
